This employment counsel position will be an integral member of the Human Resources team and have responsibility for handling and managing a broad range of litigation, pre-litigation, employment, regulatory and client relations matters. Incumbent must be able to provide excellent legal advice and representation, demonstrate a high degree of discretion and judgment, have the intellectual curiosity to remain informed of the changing legal climate on relevant employee relations issues, and have a strong commitment to personal growth and demonstrating leadership. The successful candidate will be skilled at generating pragmatic business solutions in the face of risk or incomplete information.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and provide sound, practical and actionable legal advice to the HR team and other key stakeholders on a wide range of critical and strategic employment and labor-related legal matters, including: counseling on issues such as recruitment and hiring, background checks, performance management, employee relations, equal pay, wage and hour, leaves of absence, benefits and accommodations, discrimination and harassments laws, investigations, disciplinary warnings, terminations, workplace safety, reorganizations, reductions in force and other employment issues.
- Monitor employment-related legal developments and engage proactively to drive compliance and implement risk-mitigating strategies.
- Responsible for drafting, interpreting and enforcing employment, separation, confidentiality, consulting and other HR-related agreements and policies. Create, update and manage employment-related agreement and document templates.
- Work with and advise the HR team and other department managers on a variety of employment matters, including employee relations, performance management, wage and hour, FLSA, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, investigations and litigation.
- Supervise outside counsel on all employment or labor issues requiring law firm support.
- Advise HR team on workplace investigations and employee relations concerns and procedurally support investigations following complaints of inappropriate conduct or policy violations.
- Review, develop and present trainings for the HR team, managers and teammates, including advising on and assuring compliance with employment law training requirements, and assisting HR training teams to identify appropriate training topics.
- Support Zenith’s overall employment and labor compliance program by developing and implementing strategies for HR and legal compliance efforts, prioritizing high-risk or high-exposure items.
- Applies principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Education Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate from accredited law school and member in good standing of the State Bar of California required
Experience Qualifications
- 5+ Years legal experience practicing employment law within a corporate legal department or nationally recognized law firm required
- Multi-jurisdictional experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications
- Bar Admission member in good standing of the State Bar of California Upon Hire required
The expected salary range for this position is $168,773.41-187,526.02. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. Qualifications may warrant placement in a different job level.
