Reporting to the Service Manager or Building Supervisor, this position performs cleaning functions in assigned areas of buildings. Assists in maintaining a clean, healthy and safe environment for students, faculty and staff. Acts as a lead person to assigned custodial staff. Performs duties as a project crew member consisting of floor stripping/scrubbing and refinishing. Carpet shampooing and floor buffing as assigned.

- Provide collection and disposal services for wastepaper, trash and debris and recyclable materials.
- Vacuum carpeting, dry sweep, dust mop and damp mopping of hard surfaced floors.
- Clean and sanitize washroom/shower room fixtures.
- Dust, damp wipe, wash and polish furniture and fixtures using a ladder up to 6 feet tall and at times using scaffolds.
- Use scrubbers, buffing and shampooing equipment.
- Make beds and set up occupant rooms.
- Moving furniture when required.
- Clean kitchen floors according to Health Department standards, as required.
- Shovel snow and spread ice melting compounds.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to demonstrate both reading and writing comprehension and competency skills.
- High School diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of 6 months of cleaning experience is required.
- Ability to use manual and automatic scrubbers, buffers and shampooing equipment to perform assigned project work.
- Previous cleaning experience of at least one year in an academic or health care environment preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is preferred.
- The ability to lead custodians in assigned tasks is preferred.
