JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) is seeking highly motivated individuals for a Data Analyst role in our Boston, MA office. The Data Analyst will design and implement public health data collection systems for the purposes of needs assessment, program evaluation, continuous quality improvement, and research. The Data Analyst will engage in a variety of public health areas: primary care/behavioral health integration; strategies to advance health and racial equity, including addressing social determinants of health and other barriers to healthcare access; women’s health, and maternal and child health; HIV and infectious diseases; payment reform and Medicaid policy; safety-net service delivery, and multisector approaches to advancing population health.

The ideal candidate will be a flexible and enthusiastic individual with a desire to support JSI’s mission of promoting and improving health for all, with a focus on U.S. communities with unequal access to health-related resources. Candidates should have an understanding and interest in racial and health equity. Data Analysts will contribute to JSI’s services in the areas of technical assistance and training, capacity building, health needs assessment, strategic planning, research, program evaluation, and health communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

A successful JSI Data Analyst is a creative problem solver, able to quickly pivot in changing environments, and committed to advancing racially equitable approaches to improving policies and systems that affect health. All staff members work across multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of individual accountability.

The Data Analyst role requires a variety of skills, and may require the individual to grow their skills and knowledge in the following areas:
  • Work with a project team and clients at local organizations, state health departments, health care providers and Federal agencies to develop and implement strategies for data collection plans, databases and data systems, data management, and data analysis.
  • Work with a project team and clients to develop and administer data collection tools, instructions, and other resources.
  • Use diverse database systems, assess data content/structures, and develop data extraction/query logic to obtain needed information.
  • Evaluate, clean, and analyze raw data from a variety of sources using software such as SAS, R, Python, or SPSS.
  • Coordinate data collection, documentation, reporting, and analysis efforts across project teams.
  • Provide ongoing database user support and technical assistance to JSI staff and clients.
  • Implement quality assurance checks and develop automated reports in databases based on project objectives and client needs.
  • Develop analytic summaries, presentations, and reports of data analyses conducted.
  • Document evaluation and data analysis processes and develop standard operating procedures to be used for multi-year projects
  • Provide consultation to senior staff and clients in the design and implementation of health data reporting systems and strategies.
  • Assist JSI and clients in determining optimal software and storage tools to maximize data acquisition and analysis effectiveness.
  • Contribute to proposal writing, including developing technical approaches, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in public health, health policy, or related field with 2-5 years of U.S.-based public health experience following completion of advanced degree. Individuals without a master’s degree but with at least 6 years of post-undergraduate experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Commitment to the field of public health, health policy, and/or health services delivery, including a commitment to advancing health and racial equity.
  • Training/experience working in database and reporting software platforms and languages (for example, MS Access, SAS, R, SQL). Training/experience with data collection software (for example, Alchemer, REDCap).
  • Experience in data cleaning and performing data quality checks.
  • Experience in conducting qualitative methodologies (interviews, focus groups, community listening sessions, etc.) and analyzing qualitative data utilizing NVivo, ATLAS.ti, and/or MAXQDA.
  • Ability to present analytic results in both graphical and tabular formats (knowledge of data visualization tools a plus).
  • Ability to interpret and communicate analytic findings to both technical and non-technical audiences, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work on multiple projects with multiple project directors.
  • Strong initiative skills (ability to assess a situation and take action proactively with minimal supervision).
  • Comfortable participating in team-based work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Comfort with the MS Office package, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills.



Annual salary is $73,000-$82,000 (depending on years of experience - see Qualifications) plus excellent benefits including health insurance, dental, vision, and a 401k with a company match.
