What does it take to be an Interniac? A true passion for game development, especially for the types of games we build. The passion to thrive in the rapid pace of an exciting studio and the creativity to deliver amazing player experiences.

Insomniac Games has studios in Burbank, CA and in Durham, NC with dedicated developers all over the country. Insomniac embraces a flexible work environment for our internships. Positions that require in-studio only work are in the specific job posting.

Design Intern

The Insomniac Games Internship program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside our designers who create our award-winning gameplay experiences. We are seeking a motivated intern who is interested in learning from and partnering with our content creators throughout our studio. Interns receive important design assignments that contribute to their growth and future opportunities.

We are looking for a Design Intern who understands the fundamentals of making phenomenal games! You have an eye for detail and a flair for the unexpected. Are you interested in pursuing design as a chosen career? If you are enthusiastic about learning every aspect of the development process, please apply!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility will involve the implementation of game content such as world authoring, combat setups, event triggering and scripted structural elements.
  • Passion and knowledge of the industry is much appreciated.

Internship Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited university or educational institution, pursuing a Diploma, Certificate, Bachelor's, Master’s, Ph. D with concentration in Game Design or six to twelve months related experience and/or training.
  • Internships are available to students who are US citizens or international students with an F-1 visa.
  • You are upbeat, self-motivated, creative, responsible, have a passion for next gen video games, and an understanding of what makes them fun (or not).
  • Must have scripting experience, preferably visual scripting like Blueprint, but knowledge of programming or scripting languages is acceptable.
  • Previous experience with level-editing tools, such as Unreal or Unity is required.
  • Experience with 3D modeling suites such as Maya or 3DSMax is a plus.
  • Be familiar with development environments like Unity or Unreal Engine, have strong game scripting skills or programming experience, and can work within 3D engines to build prototypes and block out level geometry.

Internship Details:

  • This is a paid, full-time internship: 5 days per week for approximately 40 hours a week.
  • We expect at least an 8-week commitment from our interns.
  • This role is based in Burbank, CA or remote from an approved US state.

Our intern positions offer a fixed hourly pay rate. Please note that the pay rate is exclusive to the internship period and may not reflect what pay may look like following the completion of an internship.
