Development Associate


Who you are: 


AI2 is looking for a Development Associate to support a growing fundraising development at AI2. The primary responsibility in this role is to support the operations of a fast-moving fundraising team. The ideal candidate for this role is one who is able to adapt and pivot as necessary, is a strategic thinker, personable, and detail-oriented. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Attention to detail is extremely important. The ideal candidate for this role will be familiar with the workings of a development department, and the nonprofit sector as a whole.

This role will be responsible for the daily maintenance and data entry in a newly implemented CRM (Salesforce). The ideal candidate will have familiarity with best practices as it relates to donor communications including acknowledgment letters, grant applications and reports (federal and private), event planning, and managing the moving pieces of the Chief Development Officer’s calendar and travel schedule. Looking ahead and naturally anticipating what’s next is critical to the success of this role. AI2’s Development Associate should also possess strong organizational, multitasking, and information-management skills, which help them keep a handle on the sensitive information that passes through their hands. Our ideal applicant has a bachelor's degree, and a degree in business or nonprofit management is a plus. You should also have at least 2-3 years of experience working as part of a development team. Sharpened problem solving skills and an ability to be a self-starter and work independently are crucial to success in this role. Who We Are:


The development department at AI2 is a small but mighty team currently consisting of the Chief Development Officer and the Grants and Database Manager. The development team is responsible for bringing in all external funding to support AI2’s current and future fundraising goals. We are a fast moving and growing team, doing great work in an exciting and rewarding field.


Your Next Challenge:


The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Mid-level grants / donor prospecting, solicitation and management
  • Administrative support including calendar management, travel expense management, and other administrative duties as assigned
  • Event planning as needed
  • Light-level sponsorship solicitation
  • Routine verbal, written, and email correspondence on behalf of the Chief Development Officer
  • Grant research, supporting the Grants and Database Manager
  • Oversight and data management of the CRM including data entry and creating / pulling reports, in partnership with the Grants and Database Manager
  • Timely follow-up on receipt and acknowledgement of gifts and other donor related communications
  • Reconciliation of related data entry activity against accounting records
  • Establishment of a donor recognition program, in partnership with AI2’s communication team 


What You’ll Need:


  • Working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques, including first-hand experience with solicitations and donor communication
  • First-hand experience with data entry and daily management of a CRM
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Close attention to detail with a critical degree of accuracy
  • Strong ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Self starter with the ability to work independently and self-motivate
  • Proficiency with Google suite and MS Office suite
  • Ability to jump in and support as needed


Education/Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2-3 years minimum experience working as part of a development or grants team
