Position Summary
Samsung TV Plus is an industry-leading FAST (free ad-supported TV) and VOD (video-on-demand) service reaching 24 countries and 500 million devices globally across TV and mobile. One of the first FAST platforms, Samsung TV Plus now offers more than 250 channels in the U.S. and nearly 2,000 channels globally, along with thousands of shows and movies on-demand. FAST is the fastest-growing video segment amongst consumers and FAST ad spend is expected to surpass that of Broadcast/Cable (combined) and SVOD within the next three years. This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of the exploding and ever-evolving FAST space and play a key role in driving the growth of the TV Plus business.
The TV Plus Strategic Partnerships and Planning team is looking for a Business Development Director who will be responsible for prospecting and executing strategic partnerships that drive growth and support the business’s key objectives. The Business Development Director will own the full partnership lifecycle – the Director will identify and sell in new partnership opportunities, define non-standard deal structures, negotiate and draft agreements, and effectively collaborate across functional teams to operationalize and drive the success of the partnership. The SPP Team is responsible for shaping all aspects of the TV Plus service strategy, and the Director will play a key role in defining that strategy, translating it into actionable plans, and working with all teams (e.g. Product/UX, Content, Marketing, Operations, Data) to execute.
The candidate should have a strong legal background and experience leading complex, multi-faceted deals. The candidate should have strong analytical skills and possess an understanding of and passion for the details, but be able to think “big picture” and quickly identify the meaningful insights, drivers, and priorities for the business. Samsung TV Plus is looking for a candidate who is excited by the opportunity to tackle large-scale ambiguous problems, a candidate who possesses a strong point of view and is willing to continually challenge the status quo, who is comfortable wearing many hats and possesses a decisive, “get it done” mentality.
Role and Responsibilities

Define and execute creative, strategic partnerships (e.g. content, distribution, product) to drive service growth

Structure new partnership models; Evaluate and prioritize proposals

Collaborate with a range of stakeholders internally/externally to align on terms related to economics, programming, data, privacy, marketing, Product/UX, etc.

Draft/redline agreements in close partnership with Legal; Lead negotiations with executive counterparts and represent all aspects of the deal

Proactively identify and creatively solve for any issues and potential risks that would impede the success of the partnership or adversely affect the business

Oversee the execution of all aspects of the partnership; Act as point coordinating with the relevant teams (e.g. Programming, Marketing, Ops) to ensure a successful launch and deal compliance

Drive the point-of-view on the key strategic questions facing the business (e.g. content strategy, distribution, new business models and partner frameworks, product) and translate recommendations into tactical action plans

Lead the strategic analysis used to inform key business decisions

Distill large amounts of data (market research, industry trends, internal data, forecasts, user testing, etc.) into clear and actionable insights and recommendations

Develop compelling narratives and presentation materials and represent recommendations to senior leadership

Translate strategies into plans with measurable goals; evangelize and support execution of goals in coordination with TV Plus functional teams
Skills and Qualifications

BA/BS required, MBA preferred but not required

15 years of relevant experience

Experience working at the intersection of content and tech; deep knowledge of the OTT / FAST / Connected TV landscape

Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to clearly and simply convey complex concepts

Proven negotiation skills and a strong legal background; Experience negotiating and redlining non-standard, multi-layered contracts

Ability to identify and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders internally/externally; Ability to strongly influence others and move organizations behind their goals

Ability to bring structure to large-scale, ambiguous problems

Ability to set priorities and creatively problem solve for several time-sensitive matters; Ability to adjust priorities/tactics/solutions based on a constantly evolving environment

Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal oversight in a fast-paced environment

For candidates based in New York City or California, compensation for this role is expected to be between $140,000 and $225,000. Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
