Director, Strategy

MRM is seeking a Strategy Director, with expertise specifically in Experience and Content Strategy, in its NYC office. This individual will develop integrated experience and content strategies as well as help lead the agency’s experience strategy offering and thinking. This role will report to the SVP Strategy Director.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES
This person will be a key contributor to client work, a thought & process leader, and a team leader.

CLIENT WORK LEADER
  • Lead Experience and Content Strategy on a portfolio of key B2B and B2C brands that play meaningful roles in the people’s lives.
  • Partner with Brand strategists and Business Leadership to understand the client business, know the strengths and weaknesses of the brand, identify problems and opportunities, and help define objectives
  • Contribute to the overarching consumer / customer strategy, to enable an integrated view of the audience across content, social, experiential, digital, and traditional.
  • Lead Experience Strategy activities on any given client:
    • Lead the approach to creating integrated experiences across an ecosystem of touchpoints, from social and digital to Web3, CRM and experiential.
    • Design experience strategies – omnichannel as well as website-specific – that elevate the UX and create seamless, modern, tech-forward experiences with the brand.
    • Lead collaboration with UX, tech, performance, commerce, creative , media and product teams to develop and orchestrate strong, modern content strategy and superior CX.
    • Design content and experience strategies grounded in brand strategy – pulling the foundations through in meaningful ways. Work with insights and design to user needs, both emotional and functional.
    • Own strategic integrity, applying audience, competitive & cultural insights to inform modern and relevant content/experience strategy approach.
    • Create a strategic approach to content (specifically for web) that implements a technology-forward site architecture and experience.
    • Identify, conduct, and analyze research (e.g., cultural, competitive) as helpful to identifying breakthrough insights and implications
    • Develop the content approach for the business, including identifying content goals, frameworks, and deliverables
    • Lead the development and execution of content marketing plans, including content identities/voice, editorial calendars, and content playbooks
    • Create content messaging architectures
    • Articulate content strategy at salient points in the journey / audience relationship with the brand, from awareness to engagement and conversion and retention and advocacy
    • Identify the appropriate paid/owned channels for content and integrate with the broader omni-channel ecosystem, including social, digital, experience, CRM, and traditional. Partner with other strategy disciplines, including Data and Media to develop integrated go-to-market plans.
    • Work with Data Science & Analytics teams to identify and activate key audience data (e.g., usage, behaviors, etc.) and to establish/measure/optimize against business, brand, marketing, and experience KPIs.
    • Develop creative briefs to inspire and inform our Creative teams in the development of content. Lead ideation and development of content in partnership with Creative teams
    • Present to the highest level of an organization and effectively persuade others, making the complex simple and the simple compelling
  • Lead Experience Strategy on new business pitches
  • Provide leadership and support to Strategy team members to ensure they deliver successfully
  • Work with clients, from the most senior levels to more day-to-day across a range of functions, from marketing to product and beyond
THOUGHT & CAPABILITY LEADER
  • Strengthen our Experience Strategy discipline and content point of view
  • Push the thinking on how content can be used to grow brand relationships with people, identifying Content products and services as appropriate
  • Introduce innovative content strategy methods, including tools, partnerships, research, frameworks
  • Develop and evolve the process in a significant way, from Content Strategy itself to how Content integrates with broader Strategy
  • Expand the overall profile of Content Strategy at the agency and network
  • Partner with the leads of other Strategy disciplines, e.g., Social Strategy, and other agency disciplines, e.g., Commerce, Technology
  • Represent MRM’s Content point of view in the industry
TEAM LEADER
  • Lead the development of methods that inspire and engage staff, and provide an environment that encourages great ideas to flourish
  • Provide input into Experience & Content Strategy scoping and staffing to ensure understanding of the need and matching to Strategy resource capability and availability
  • Identify competency gaps and plans to fill and grow
  • Manage the career development of team members, including coaching and mentoring
  • Attract the best talent
  • Create a culture oriented towards positivity, community, problem-solving, and resourcefulness
THE REQUIREMENTS
  • 10 years directly-related Experience Strategy experience (not only content management, writing, or execution)
  • 5+ years supervisory and management experience
  • Thought leader with proven results
  • Experience building go-to-market plans across omnichannel ecosystem
  • Strong consumer / customer orientation including B2C and B2B and experience working with segmentation and journeys
  • Ability to inspire Creative teams
  • Comfort and confidence with emerging forms of content, channels, and technology, including up-to-date knowledge of Martech
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area
  • Strong collaboration skills and flexibility with different ways to work is required
  • Exceptional communication skills — on the page and in presentation
  • Curiosity, passion, collaborative spirit, optimism to find the answer, and work ethic to deliver

The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $300,000. Where an employee or prospective employee is paid within this range will depend on, among other factors, actual ranges for current/former employees in the subject position; the associated discipline; market considerations; budgetary considerations; tenure and standing with the company (applicable to current employees); as well as the employee’s/applicant’s background, pertinent experience, and qualifications.
