American Express Global Commercial Services (GCS) is dedicated to the success of businesses around the world, big and small. We support companies of all sizes gain financial control and efficiency though a suite of business-focused payments, lending, and travel products. The Marketing team is responsible for creating an end-to-end strategy and distribution plan to grow our business with both prospects & customers.


How will you make an impact in this role?


The Director, Strategy & Business Planning, will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Prospect & Customer Small Business Services (SBS) Card Marketing. They will work closely with the SBS Marketing leadership team to lead strategic planning, develop key communications, run team and talent processes, and support delivering business results. The Director will work closely with key business partners across GCS and enterprise functions, such as Product, Finance, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Affairs & Communications, and the Colleague Experience Group. In addition to these core responsibilities, the Director may lead special projects that help drive critical marketing strategies forward.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage strategic planning for SBS Marketing team, synthesizing team focus, objectives and priorities for newly integrated Prospect, Customer and Partner Marketing teams
  • Develop team communications strategy, routines and colleague programs that support an inclusive and collaborative team culture
  • Manage talent processes for team, including midyear, year end and talent assessments
  • Serve as a trusted partner for the leadership team, setting the agenda for LT and full team meetings
  • Develop high-quality and impactful presentations for a variety of audiences and stakeholders including senior leadership meetings, regulatory meetings, and town halls
  • Own key SBS Marketing and enterprise processes, including budget oversight and tracking and investment planning
  • Work closely with the Executive Assistant to coordinate logistics and operations for the office of the SVP
  • Lead other strategic marketing assignments and innovation projects as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Superb organizational, written/verbal communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Expert storytelling skills with proven ability to synthesize data and insights into compelling presentations
  • Highly adaptable with capacity to balance multiple priorities with tight deadlines
  • Proactive and capable of working autonomously with minimal direction
  • Superior relationship-building skills and ability to collaborate across a wide variety of partners and levels of the organization
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and operate with the highest levels of integrity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in and/or demonstrated understanding of the Card issuing business with strong financial and business acumen
  • Direct or indirect people leadership experience and/or experience with coaching/mentoring

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
