Google Cloud Architect

McLaren is seeking a Google Cloud Architect to join a highly skilled Agile team. This candidate will be working on a major engineering transformation from legacy to modern cloud native applications.


This role involves software development, technical design, and architecture, leveraging the native tools and services of the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).


Be part of a transformative initiative, modernizing legacy systems into scalable, secure, and efficient cloud-based solutions. Work with a cutting-edge tech stack while contributing to impactful projects in the financial services and auto finance sectors.


*Travel is required once a month.


Responsibilities
  • Adapt and refactor existing legacy Cobol, DB2, and C++ components to work with GCP-native tools and services.
  • Utilize GCP managed services, such as Apigee, Cloud Run, Cloud Storage, and Cloud SQL (AlloyDB or Postgres alternatives considered).
  • Modify and merge SAS programs and Linux shell scripts for data modification and distribution.
  • Work with product teams to confirm business or functional requirements.
  • Analyze the impact of technical documentation on development.
  • Design and implement APIs using microservices, JSON, and JWT for token-based authentication.
  • Ensure API security with tools like 42Crunch for threat protection and security auditing.
  • Hands-on experience with Spring Boot 3.x, Spring 5.x, and Spring Reactive with JDK 17.
  • Deploy backend services using GCP Cloud Run and Cloud Load Balancing.
  • Caching with GCP Memorystore and monitoring with Cloud Monitoring and Dynatrace.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code using Tekton pipelines and Terraform.
  • Logging and analytics with Cloud Logging, Splunk, Adobe Analytics, and Content Square.
  • Static application security and code quality using tools like Checkmarx, SonarQube, and Fossa.
  • Messaging and streaming with GCP Pub/Sub.


Required Experience
  • 5+ years of experience with Google Cloud architecture and technologies such as Cloud Run, Cloud Load Balancing, APIGEE, Cloud Armor, GCP Memorystore. GCP Pub/Sub.
  • Experience with Cloud SQL, Postgres, Mongo, AlloyDB.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile frameworks, including drafting and refining user stories.
  • Expertise with CI/CD tools, including Cloud Build, GCP Artifact Registry, and GCP Secret Manager.
  • Domain experience in Financial Services Operations, Banking Lending, or Auto Finance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field.

  • Proven ability to analyze and design technical solutions across multiple applications.
