Economic Research Associate

Position Summary:

The Economic Research Associate position requires a person having both backgrounds in economics and programing. The applicant will mainly support the Business Cycle Indicators business which produces proprietary data for members and the public. The ideal candidate will provide programming, statistical, analytical, and graphical support to the Economy Strategy & Finance Center. As part of the Economics team, the candidate will work with complex data sets, and create data-based insights for internal and external users.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce The Conference Board Leading Economic Indexes and other indicators (e.g., business cycle trackers, recession probabilities), in a timely manner and per strict deadlines,
  • Develop actionable insights and/or chartbooks using Excel/Tableau.
  • Utilize programming skills to transform databases for use in The Conference Board Data Central tool.
  • Contribute to the overall economics program work through support of additional projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Masters in economics or undergraduate degree in economics with an emphasis in data analysis.
  • Preferred coursework in economics, mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
  • Experience working with economic data and large and complex databases.
  • Detail-oriented and able to multi-task
  • Capable of working both independently and in a team environment
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, EViews, SQL, SAS, SPSS) to manipulate data, draw insights and create visualizations from large data sets.
  • Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SQL, etc.
  • Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using Excel/ Tableau, Access,
  • PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams and contributing to insights.
  • Innovative and able to develop new project ideas.
