Job Description
Location:
New York, NY
SELF is seeking an editorial assistant to serve as assistant to the Editor-in-Chief in addition to performing administrative duties and editorial support for the entire team. You will schedule travel, arrange meetings, help build articles in the CMS, and assist on photo shoots and with all of our awards franchises, while working quickly and meticulously. The ideal candidate will be extremely organized, proactive with excellent follow-through, and a great communicator. You should feel comfortable balancing multiple tasks and take pride in supporting a team’s day-to-day functions. A bonus: You’re interested in health, fitness, and lifestyle journalism, and have an appreciation for wellness trends but don’t mess around with pseudoscience.
SELF produces science-backed, human-focused content our audience can trust. When it comes to talking about health on the internet, we know that there can be a lot of scary, conflicting, or surface-level explanations for all those questions in a person’s search history. We’re not here to fearmonger, judge, or gloss over the facts. We’re here to inform, motivate, and maybe even entertain you. We do that by focusing on four key brand values: inclusivity, accuracy, empathy, and autonomy.
Responsibilities:
Provide administrative support to the Editor-in-Chief, such as:
Managing calendar and schedule, including scheduling meetings and making judgment calls about prioritization
Manage expenses and travel
Taking notes in meetings
Help build newsletters and articles in CMS and contribute writing and research to content needed
Assist with brand outreach, product logistics, and sample organization for our awards franchises (including Healthy Beauty Awards, Sneaker Awards, and Activewear Awards) and other special projects and photo shoots
Assist with some photo shoots (helping call in and return samples, organizing props, grabbing last-minute items, getting extra water or coffee on set, etc.)
Organize team outings
Become an expert in solving day-to-day problems in the 1 World Trade Center office
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
College degree in journalism and at least 1 year of work experience, preferable
Strong knowledge of SELF and passion for its mission
Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Ability to be proactive and anticipate and solve logistical issues
Previous internship in digital media a bonus
The expected base salary range for this position is from $56,500 -$68,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
