Construction and Technical Services is responsible for a significant portion of in-house construction and repair services needed within 55 DCAS-managed court and non-court buildings which total 15 million square feet of space. The Electricians Shop (whole staff including supervisors and helpers) cover over 1,000,000 sq. ft. per electrical tradesperson. Responsibilities: Under supervision, works as an electrician on the installation, repair and maintenance of low tension electrical systems for light, heat, power and communications in or on buildings and structures. May serve as a special electrician, making applications and obtaining permits and approvals required by rule, regulation and/or statute; prepares reports and maintains records and performs related work. Other duties include installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical wiring systems and components; equipment and apparatus in or on buildings or structures in accordance with the New York City Electrical Code, pertinent plans, and specifications and job orders. The electrician also conducts tests on existing installations to determine faults and makes necessary repairs.
Temporary electricians will be hired for a period not to exceed 90 days to upgrade lighting at several DCAS facilities. The scope of work for this project calls for the replacement of existing lighting fixtures/lamps to LEDs. The existing fixture types are a mix of Metal Halide lamps, incandescent lamps, T12 Fluorescent fixtures, & T8 fluorescent fixtures. The buildings covered by this scope vary across the five boroughs.
Occupancy sensors will also be installed in areas where the existing lighting controls are toggle switches.
