Job Duties
We are seeking an individual to join our NOVA District Location & Design team who is able to design, manage, and produce right of way and construction plans for a variety of transportation projects.
The position will manage project design schedules; conduct project scoping and cost estimates; and coordinate with other divisions ensuring project segments remain on schedule. You will complete roadway designs utilizing MicroStation, GeoPak, OpenRoads and 3D software; provide technical direction and support to Project Lead; and perform quality control checks throughout the design process and communicate with stakeholders and external customers.
This is an hourly/wage position and is not entitled to state benefits package and is limited to no more than 1500 hours in a 12-month period. Average 29 hrs per week during regular Business hrs M-F.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong knowledge of transportation engineering standards, principles, and procedures.
Demonstrates considerable knowledge of roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications and materials.
Good verbal skills with the ability to conduct effective meetings towards resolution of technical plan related issues.
Good listening skills with the ability to interact effectively with people and establish good working relationships among internal and external stakeholders.
Strong technical fluency skills and ability to use collaborative software such as Google Meets and Microsoft Teams.
Experience using Microstation and OpenRoads or other 3D roadway design software.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous roadway design experience
Demonstrates considerable knowledge of civil engineering principles as they relate to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge ensuring compliance with Department standards, specifications, policies and procedures.
Preference includes college degree in Civil Engineering or related degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred but not required.
