Unit Mission Statement
The Academic & Applied Esports Program is designed to support the learning, research, and competitive components for students in the Esports Program. The William & Mary Academic & Applied Esports Program aims to meet the exponential demand of students, accelerate the integration of wellness through research and practice, and provide students with experiential opportunities as they explore their interests and passion for gaming and game development as they gain marketable skills for the growing gaming industry.

Position Summary
The W&M Esports Coach Coordinator, reporting to the Program Director, will direct the development, recruitment, management, facilities, and operations within the approved Provost’s budget.
The individual will direct the planning, selection, management, and maintenance of esports facilities, technologies, and materials, including hardware and software, physical and digital security, access control, equipment, and apparel.
The Esports Coach Coordinator will develop a comprehensive understanding of the needs, values, and goals of student esports players, streamers, and associates. The Esports Coach Coordinator will develop programming, processes, and support structures to meet those needs, in collaboration with the Director, esports staff and students, and partners across the university and in the esports field. The Esports Coach Coordinator will mentor and lead team coaches and captains, particularly in the development of student leaders and hiring paid staff.
The Esports Coach Coordinator will serve as Tournament Director for internal and external events and guide and mentor student volunteers involved in tournament development and operations.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in the esports landscape
  • Deep and demonstrable understanding of university operations and the esports field (academic and industry)
  • Extensive experience with collegiate esports, including but not limited to general strategies, team building, skill building, and competition strategies

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in esports
  • Video editing for practice and match performance review
  • Strong organizational skills, especially in regard to managing team practices and competitions
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students and college staff
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

Advertised Pay Range
Up to $27-$30/hr based on qualifications, education, and experience

Conditions of Employment
  • All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year.
