Executive Strategy Director

More often than not the creative opportunities that strategy defines at TBWA will be advertising or comms of some sort. An additional role of strategy is to help hone and craft that creative work in a way that delivers the greatest value for our clients (on-brief, clear, well branded etc.)

Everything that we do is in service of creativity and value creation for our clients' brands. We achieve this by applying the Disruption methodology to break free of conventions and disrupt the status quo.

As an Executive Strategy Director, you are a leader who identifies and maximizes the opportunities on your accounts. With your peers in Business and Creative you are part of a well-oiled team, a part-owner and you act accordingly. Through directly managing and mentoring across the department you reinforce your own skill set. You aren't just delegating; you lead by example and nurture growth in the people around you. You have an informed perspective on the categories your brands operate in and the audiences they target. This perspective is grounded in truth and steeped in cultural insight, which grants you authority.

  • You are a passionate advocate for creative thinking, for creative work
  • and for the creative department.
  • You are a passionate advocate for the role that strategy plays in this.
  • You are an expert that creatives and clients seek out to collaborate with, shape and hone their creative work.
  • You are a collaborator and an orchestrator at large, in your day to day and across the teams that you work with.
  • You are constantly looking to unlock new creative opportunities with excellent strategic thinking.
  • You are a master at packaging and selling creative work.
  • You are able to build an undeniable narrative through a presentation that resolves in a final sell/recommendation/plan.
  • You bring additional value to the agency by applying Disruption modules appropriately so that you can uncover completely new growth opportunities.
  • You translate these opportunities into fertile territory for the creative department and creative practitioners beyond the department.
  • You anticipate the common hurdles that we frequently encounter in this space and guide the clients through them.
  • Advocate for work that is going to be effective on a daily basis.
  • Educate your teams in your daily interactions. Advise on good reading material. Encourage ongoing study of other effective work (WARC).
  • Build measurement frameworks for your clients and bake these into the ecosystem planning.
  • Consider championing this topic across the department to drive effectiveness awards forward.
  • Be supportive of the technology, digital and social innovation efforts that are happening across the company. Be curious and find out what is really happening and the success that we have.
  • Evangelize our capabilities and case studies and discuss them with your clients.
  • Engage consistently in DEI as a daily practice; actively listen to and genuinely hear the voices of others who have different lived experiences, lift up the voices of people from under represented groups, give direct feedback clearly and frequently
  • Attend DEI events, Complete DEI training, Be visible in the DEI conversation and be an Ally.
  • Support the DEI team in their efforts.
  • Help build the culture of the agency, especially within the strategy department,

What You'll Bring:

  • 15+ years experience in a strategic capacity
  • Experience leading strategy across clients in an advertising capacity
  • Experience across strategic disciplines including brand, digital, social, etc
  • Direct, trusting relationships with clients
  • Experience managing people and mentoring across department
  • Expertise in of agency tools
  • Undeniable presence

Location:

Given the nature of Strategy team and the client assigned to this role, we are only considering candidates that currently live in or wish to relocate to New York City.

The annual salary range for this role is $200,000-$250,000 and may vary depending on the candidate's geographic location and experience. Other compensation includes relocation costs, if applicable and eligibility for discretionary bonus, subject to terms/conditions of discretionary bonus program.

Benefits for this role include health/vision/dental insurance, 401(k), stock purchase, vacation, sick and personal days, Also, you will be eligible (approximately thirty days after you commence employment) to participate in all disability, life, travel insurance plans and programs, retirement plans subject to the terms and conditions of such benefit plans.
