The Field Service Engineer is responsible for executing assigned robotic/automation jobs, including onsite installation, repair and follow up on service escalations. Services are provided in-house, on-site and/or via telephone.
The Field Service Engineer works to resolve field engineering problems with an emphasis on the controls side of the business. This can include design, checks, and troubleshoots electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and water designs per assigned project. The objective is to resolve problems, share information with other team members and to make in-field design changes, if required to improve equipment performance.
Provides on-the-job-training (OJT) opportunities and coaching / mentoring for upcoming Field Service Technicians.
Minimum of one year PLC, hydraulics and pneumatics experience required. KUKA will train on the robotics side of the business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities including, but not limited to:
- Perform in-house, on-site and/or telephone troubleshooting, repairs and support of KUKA equipment.
- Work within a flexible work/travel schedule. Travel to customer sites on short notice. Frequent travel to customer sites & general business errands required – both domestic and international (passport required).
- Provide assistance to KUKA Robotics customers and internal personnel for the troubleshooting and repair of electrical, mechanical and programming problems related to KUKA Robotics equipment.
- Complete Field Service reports.
- Develop technical credibility and rapport with customer. Forward sales leads to appropriate account manager.
- Work with the Service Manager and/or related supervisor(s) to identify individual training needs to maintain and continuously improve skills and knowledge of KUKA Robotics products and applications.
- Backup all software, programming, or configuration changes made during the customer visits.
- Assists the Assembly, Spare Parts, Shipping & Receiving teams to ensuring on-time, complete and accurate deliveries.
- Participates actively in the promotion and sale of parts and services when possible.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, electronic, etc. prints and other related technical documentation.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of customer service for phone and face-to-face contact with customers
- PC skills/knowledge (MS Office environment, Internet, email, etc.
- Valid driver's license and passport required.
PLC Experience:
- Siemens S7 or TIA 2 Years minimum
- Allen Bradley Control Logix 1 Year minimum
- Must be able to load software on laptop then use software to diagnose faults, make changes, update tags and PLC program as needed.
Hydraulics Training:
- Must be able to read and understand hydraulic print
- 1 Year minimum
Pneumatics Training:
- Must be able to read and understand a pneumatics print
- 1 Year minimum
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.E.E./B.S.C/B.S.M.E.) from an accredited four-year college or university, and five years related technical/engineering experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
