The Financial Officer will report to the Chief Administrative Officer and will work closely with the Business Support Officer. The incumbent will provide financial assistance in accounts payable, account receivables, variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and providing decision analysis.

Your responsibilities will include:


  • Applying the generally accepted accounting principles to all financial tasks
  • Processing accounts payable according to the University Guide to Financial Management
  • Comparing forecasted figures to actuals
  • Preparing budget variance reports
  • Providing advice and data to support the development of business cases and analytics for departmental initiatives
  • Verifying the accuracy of absence and/or attendance reports prior to processing payroll
  • Collecting supporting documentation required for accounting, payroll and/or HRIS processing
  • Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
  • Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements


Essential Qualifications:


  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in a recognized accounting or finance program, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum three years of recent and related financial, accounting (AR and AP), and budgeting experience
  • Experience monitoring budgets, preparing budget variance reports, and reconciling accounts
  • Experience applying general accepted accounting principles and applicable financial policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with and a strong working knowledge of the Universities Guide to Financial Management policy
  • Experience processing payroll, with strong knowledge of payroll principles, and union collective agreements
  • Experience working with AMS, including FIS and HRIS
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge of Excel and intermediate knowledge of Word and Power Point
  • Strong analytical ability and aptitude for details and follow through.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
