Purpose/Introduction

We are seeking a qualified individual to join our team as a Health, Fire & Safety Supervisor for the new Golden Triangle Polymers facility in Orange, TX that will be operated by Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.


During the project phase, the successful candidate will be directly accountable for helping to develop and implement safety and industrial hygiene programs including site safety procedures. Additionally, the Health, Fire & Safety Supervisor will be responsible for hiring and developing a team of Fire & Safety Specialists. Following startup, the job functions will transition to a more traditional role characterized by normal plant operations. This includes being accountable for supporting the facility by focusing on the anticipation, recognition, identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health and safety hazards, personnel safety, industrial hygiene, and emergency response and security as well as compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as safety leader to promote CPChem Safety Culture to all project personnel, including contractors, subcontractors, and vendor representatives
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills including listening, coaching and conflict resolution
  • Assists with and delegates as necessary to help with operational readiness activities including items such as:
    • Developing, implementing, and maintaining written health and safety strategies, programs, policies, and procedures (Safe Work Permit, Confined Space, LTT, Hex Chrome, Benzene, etc)
    • Developing facility sampling plan and conduct qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments
    • Creating Emergency Response and Security plans
    • Developing contractor onboarding and safe work program plans
  • Ensures compliance with company, local, state, federal, and OSHA rules and regulations
  • Provides direct field and technical health & safety support to operating units
  • Conducts periodic audits of potentially hazardous work areas, process operations, work practices and procedures
  • Partners with stakeholders to define and employ appropriate controls
  • Serves as point of contact for regulatory and company audits
  • Provides oversight for contractor work activities including monitoring, sampling, safety & health training, and audits

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a health, safety, engineering or related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of direct-applicable industrial health and/or safety experience, preferably in a refining or chemical industry OR a High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 10 years of direct-applicable industrial health and/or safety experience, preferably in a refining or chemical industry.
  • Experience in developing and implementing safety procedures and programs, including success in behavior-based safety.
  • Strong technical background in regulatory interpretations, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, safety and occupational health, and behavioral safety concepts.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in the industrial Health and/or Safety discipline with emphasis on leadership and a strong field presence, preferably in a refining or chemical industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist
  • Previous safety or health experience in executing large capital projects in the refining or chemical industry
  • Previous supervisory experience
