In this role, you will be a member of Western Union’s Financial Intelligence Unit (“FIU”) located within the Global Compliance organization. The FIU assists to mitigate money laundering and terrorist financing risks to Western Union. This highly visible area is responsible for identifying, escalating, and mitigating money laundering risk related activity.
This role operates in the FIU’s Office of High Risk & Agent Investigations (HRA). This team conducts in-depth investigations primarily focused on Western Union Networks, Agents, or Agent Owners. The goal is to effectively detect signs of potential Agent complicity and/or training deficiencies to mitigate potential risk to Western Union.
Role Responsibilities
Responsible for the investigation of complex and unusual money transfer transactions, patterns and scenarios that may be indicative of money laundering or terrorist financing concerns or have no apparent economic or lawful purpose.
Review referrals and escalations.
Provide accurate analysis and documentation of suspicious activity.
Detect suspicious trends and activity by analyzing transactions through various systems/applications.
Formulate conclusions regarding potential risk while determining appropriate risk mitigation actions to include filing suspicious activity reports.
Recommend appropriate risk-based business actions to be taken by either WU Consumers, WU Payments Clients/customers, and/or Agent Network locations.
Interact with various stakeholders within the organization to gather critical information for decision making.
Work on specific projects or non-standard tasks and oversight processes as well as potentially assist with training and support for new team members.
Role Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent job experience in the financial services industry is acceptable.
2-3 years of experience in any of the following: Bank Secrecy Act, AML Compliance, general and/or risk-based compliance, or previous analytical experience is preferred.
Demonstrate strong analytical, organizational, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to manipulate moderately large sets of data to accurately identify risk and promptly escalate when necessary.
Proficient in software applications: MS Office Suite with advanced skills in MS Excel, as well as experience with i2 Analyst Notebook, Tableau, and Alteryx is preferred.
Ability to work in a fast paced, highly structured, deadline driven culture.
Intermediate to advanced understanding of the Global Money Remittances Industry as it relates to anti-money laundering, terrorist financing and other typologies.
Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and potentially work on confidential and sensitive matters with a high degree of professionalism and discretion.
Fluent in both written and spoken English, proficient skills in other languages would be an advantage.

Salary
The on-target earnings range is $70,956.00 - $88,560 per year, which includes a base salary and short-term incentives that align with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on candidates’ qualifications, skills, and competencies.
