The Opportunity 

Our Security team is looking to hire a Staff Product Security Engineer to help build security solutions that will impact our newest hardware products. This person will partner closely with engineering teams and leadership to ensure we continue creating a product that prioritizes security, privacy and ethics. 

• Work with device hardware and software teams to:

  • Identify security vulnerabilities on the device

  • Assess relevance of upstream vulnerabilities to our codebase

  • Implement fixes for security vulnerabilities 

  • Develop and implement defensive security measures 

• Develop, review, test, and debug device platform APIs, system services, and communications channels

• Assist with designing strategic innovations for security architecture

• Lead security projects designed to improve the security posture of the Flock device ecosystem

• Perform threat modeling on device security, share security recommendations, and refine the security design guidelines.

The Skillset 

• 10+ years of experience working in software security roles such as application security, security engineering, product security, or security research

• Experience in a dedicated software engineering role

• The ability to read and write software in several of the following languages: Kotlin, Java, C, Rust, Groovy

• Skilled in identifying vulnerability classes within complex code bases, performing root cause analysis, identifying remediation paths, conducting technical coordination with engineering resources and performing fix verification

• Extensive experience in threat modeling and security architecture reviews

• The ability to perform web application penetration tests, source code reviews, and application security audits

• Experience auditing and performing security reviews of device platform API(s)

Nice to haves:

• Experience working directly with hardware, specifically embedded processors

• Low level experience working with bootloaders, recovery modes, etc

• Experience monitoring and dumping traffic within network protocols such as BLE, WiFi, Ethernet, and LTE

• A deep understanding of Linux internals (process scheduler, memory management, concurrency, synchronization, memory allocation, file system, networking, storage, subsystem architecture, SELinux)

• A deep understanding of Android internals (Zygote, Binder, Broadcasts, AIDL, HALs, etc)

• Experience with secure storage and execution environments such as Arm TrustZone and Qualcomm Trusted Execution Environment

• Familiarity with Android Open Source Project (AOSP) build systems

• Be able to give an overview of our device security features

• Deliver and implement device security features

90 Days & Beyond 

• Begin making a real impact on the security landscape of the device.

The Interview Process 

1. Our First Chat: During this first conversation, you’ll meet with a recruiter to chat through your background, what you could bring to Flock, what you are looking for in your next role, and who we are. 

2. The Hiring Manager Interview: You will meet with your potential future boss to really dive into the role, the team, expectations, and what success means at Flock. This is your chance to really nerd out with someone in your field. 

3. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners. 

4. The Executive Review: A chance to meet an executive and view Flock from a different lens. Be prepared to ask well-thought-out questions about the company, culture, and more.
