As a Battery Test and Validation Engineer, you will lead the testing and validation of advanced energy storage systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and performance benchmarks. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, execute, and analyze tests, driving improvements in reliability, safety, and efficiency.


As the Test and Validation Engineer, you will be responsible for:
  • Develop and execute test plans for battery modules and packs, including structural, thermal, and safety testing.
  • Develop test setups for cell, component, module and pack level testing, including instrumentation. 
  • Analyze test results and provide actionable insights to R&D teams to enhance product development.
  • Establish protocols for environmental, electrical, and mechanical validation tests.
  • Collaborate with external test facilities to plan and conduct tests.
  • Oversee external testing on site. 
  • Develop internal testing capabilities by identifying equipment needs and working with suppliers to acquire needed equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during testing and validation phases.
  • Document findings and communicate effectively across engineering teams.
  • Understand product attributes and standards, be able to apply them to testing. 
  • Work with project management to track and maintain schedule.
  • Travel as needed, 25-50%, depending on program cycle


What you will bring to Fluence:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in battery testing, validation, or related fields.
  • Experience with battery testing equipment (Arbin, Bitrode, NHR, Digitron, etc.)
  • Experience with statistical validation.
  • Experience with HALT and HAST testing.
  • Experience with instrumentation and data logging.
  • Proficiency in testing tools and data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
  • Familiarity with UL, IEC, and ISO standards for batteries.
  • Hands-on experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and root cause analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of thermal management systems and battery safety protocols.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for innovation in energy storage technologies.
