Senior Systems Engineer - Charging Systems

We’re seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Charging Systems to join our rapidly growing team. Reporting to our Engineering Manager – Powertrain System Validation, you will be responsible for the Systems Engineering of vehicle Charging Systems, providing definition of the charging process and all associated interactions including charging request, pre-conditioning and driver interactions through vehicle and phone interface. Acting as the interface between vehicle product requirements and engineering specifications, the role will ensure a complete user experience is delivered.

This pivotal role will operate in a hybrid capacity from our offices near Leamington Spa. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the most visionary minds in the automotive field.

What you’ll do

·        Ownership of the technical delivery of the Charging System, designed to meet the required user experience by decomposing appropriate engineering system requirements to the relevant engineering functional teams.

·        Act as the subject matter expert for vehicle charging with a deep understanding of charging standards, protocols and legislations.

·        Articulation of risks and opportunities associated with high level requirements and their implementation.

·        Visibility of future technologies and trends in this area to ensure that engineered solutions suit future states.

·        Ensure compliance with automotive safety standards, working with the homologation and functional safety teams, including ISO26262 and ECE R100 amongst others.

 

Who you are

·        Significant experience of Electric Powertrains (Battery to Driveshaft) within an automotive engineering environment, degree qualified in a related engineering discipline.

·        Knowledge of automotive standards (such as ISO 26262 for functional safety, UN ECE R100 for high-voltage safety, and automotive EMC standards) and engineering practices

·        Demonstrable knowledge of charging systems and associated technologies. Ability to present and explain technical strategies to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

·        Demonstrable understanding of electric powertrain architectures and underlying principles and technologies including thermal management, HV harnessing, electrical safety systems, serviceability and control strategies. 

·        Good communication and ability to represent and articulate concepts to colleagues and seniors alike.

·        A comprehensive understanding of the V-Cycle and its application in an automotive environment.

·        Experience in system modelling programmes would be an advantage.
