The Gas Apprentice position is an entry level position responsible for working with the Gas Journeyman level position on the operation, maintenance, and construction of Dominion Energy South Carolina’s natural gas system. Duties include: responding to pipeline damages, repairs and replacements to below-ground gas pipelines and fittings, working in conditions where natural gas is present, responding to customer calls/concerns, completing customer meter orders (blocking, unblocking, pulling meters for testing, painting meters, conducting zero use and high bill complaint investigations), performing above ground leak repairs, performing underground line locating, conducting leak survey and atmospheric corrosion surveys, performing valve maintenance work, and conducting odorant checks.
In addition to working with Gas Journeymen, Gas Apprentices will go through the Gas Apprentice Training Program, a three-year program involving training courses and Operational Qualifications (OQ) which includes electronic testing and hands-on testing. Continuous advancement and OQ in the training program are required. The successful candidate should be driven towards graduating the program and the Journeyman career.
Position reports to Dominion Energy South Carolina's Columbia Gas Crew Quarters located in Cayce, South Carolina.
