We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Global Category Manager to oversee and optimize the global spend related to the Logistics and Packaging categories across our organization. As the Global Category Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing category strategies, driving cost savings, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the overall efficiency of our logistics and packaging procurement processes. Your expertise and leadership will play a critical role in shaping our global sourcing and supply chain strategies, driving innovation, and delivering measurable value to our company. This role will be reporting to the Senior Director, Global Strategic Sourcing and is preferably based out of our sites in Pittsburgh, PA or Tijuana, MEX, but may be considered as a remote role for the right candidate.
Category Strategy Development: Develop and execute comprehensive category strategies for Logistics and Packaging that align with the organization's overall objectives, incorporating global market trends, industry best practices, and supplier capabilities.
Supplier Relationship Management: Identify, evaluate, and select strategic suppliers within the Logistics and Packaging categories, establishing and maintaining strong relationships to ensure high-quality service, cost competitiveness, and continuous improvement.
Cost Optimization: Analyze spend patterns, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement appropriate initiatives to optimize logistics and packaging expenses while maintaining quality and service levels.
Drive negotiations and leverage volume to secure favorable pricing and contractual terms.
Contract Negotiations: Negotiate contracts on behalf of the company with Year-Over-Year (YOY) productivity expectations.
Procurement Process Efficiency: Implement streamlined procurement processes and systems for the Logistics and Packaging categories to enhance efficiency, standardize practices, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
Market Intelligence: Monitor global market trends, industry developments, and emerging technologies within the logistics and packaging sectors.
Leverage market intelligence to proactively identify innovative solutions, mitigate risks, and drive continuous improvement.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including Operations, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Regulatory and Finance, to align category strategies with business needs and requirements, foster effective communication, and ensure successful execution of procurement initiatives.
Act as a subject matter expert resource to the internal site purchasing teams and external contract manufacturing teams for commodity direction and strategy implementation.
Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks within the Logistics and Packaging categories, develop and implement mitigation strategies, and maintain contingency plans to minimize any potential disruptions to the supply chain.
Performance Tracking: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of category management initiatives.
Regularly report on performance metrics, savings achieved, supplier performance, and other relevant insights to stakeholders and senior management.
Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field, required. In lieu of a degree, candidates with extensive experience in logistics for the medical device industry may be considered.
Proven experience (3+ years) in global category management or strategic sourcing, with a focus on the Logistics and Packaging categories, required. In lieu of Logistics and packaging experience, candidates with extensive category management experience may be considered.
Strong knowledge of logistics and packaging industry trends, best practices, and supplier landscape.
Strong contract negotiation background.
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing category strategies, driving cost savings, and managing supplier relationships.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders and influence cross-functional teams.
Analytical mindset with proficiency in data analysis, market research, and financial modeling.
Experience in using procurement software and tools is desirable.
Proactive, results-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Travel expectation: ~20%
