GOLF COURSE GROUNDS ASSISTANT

Occupational Summary

Under the direction of the golf course Superintendent, 1st Assistant Superintendent, and Senior Assistant Superintendent, employee operates motorized power equipment on the golf course. Must have knowledge of standard procedures and methods required for efficient and normal completion of the required job. Must operate equipment in a safe manner, never endangering the personal safety of those working in the area. Must understand various working conditions to minimize wear on the equipment. Must operate equipment as required to facilitate daily production needs. As much as possible, must keep the surrounding work area in a smooth and orderly condition to allow ease of movement of the equipment.

Departmental Standards and Expectations of Employee

• Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in grounds construction, landscaped area maintenance work, building maintenance and improvement, and golf course maintenance
• Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment
• Ability to perform all daily golf course job tasks
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Acts as a role model within and outside Duke
• Performs duties as workload necessitates
• Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload
• Maintains a positive and respectful demeanor
• Communicates regularly with supervisor about golf course issues or concerns
• Adheres to Duke’s Policy and Procedures

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Enforces safe working conditions with all job assignments
• Responsible for instructing/training staff on proper equipment use and work methods
• Perform tasks following the Duke University Golf Club Maintenance high level of standards as outlines in the Department Operating Guide, Attendance/Guidance Procedures, and Equipment Training Manual
• Operate all powered golf course maintenance equipment safely and proficiently, with awareness of golfer safety
