Director of Merchandising, Food & Hardlines

Overview:


As the Director, Merchandising - Food & Hardlines, you will be responsible for leading the strategy, planning, and execution of all merchandising activities related to our food and hardlines categories (Snacks, Fresh, Pantry, Frozen, Health and Home). This role reports directly into the VP of Merchandising and is critical in ensuring we deliver a cohesive and customer-centric product assortment. You will manage a team of 7 merchandising professionals, providing leadership, mentorship, and strategic direction to optimize sales, profitability, and brand positioning.


You Will:
  • Category Strategy & Leadership: Lead and define the strategy for the food and hardlines categories, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and customer needs.
  • Team Management & Development: Oversee a team of 7 merchandising professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Provide mentorship and support to grow team capabilities and career development.
  • Assortment Planning: Drive product assortment planning and allocation across the food and hardlines categories, ensuring a balanced and competitive mix.
  • Vendor & Supplier Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, negotiating pricing, promotions, and terms to maximize profitability and sales.
  • Sales & Profitability Optimization: Analyze market trends, customer insights, and competitive landscape to drive actionable decisions aimed at boosting category sales and profitability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., marketing, supply chain, operations) to ensure seamless execution of merchandising plans and promotional initiatives.
  • Performance Monitoring: Continuously track and evaluate the performance of your categories, adjusting strategies to improve product sales, margins, and customer satisfaction.


You Have:
  • 8+ years of experience in merchandising, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the food and hardlines sectors.
  • Proven experience managing and developing a high-performing team.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data and market trends to drive strategic decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate with vendors and manage supplier relationships.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Bachelors degree in Business, Merchandising, or related field (MBA preferred).
