Decent is looking for a knowledgeable and solutions-oriented Health Plan Operations Business Analyst (BA) to strengthen our operational processes and documentation, and help bring affordable healthcare to all.

We're servicing a huge market need for affordable and delightful health insurance (79 NPS vs. industry average of 19), and all of our plans include unlimited primary care via the direct primary care (DPC) model. We sell both direct and through brokers and have partnered with national broker distributors like BenefitMall and OneDigital (25K brokers) to offer the world's first integrated health plan + PEO. What You Will Be Doing
The Health Plan Operations Business Analyst position is a highly-visible role that serves as a business liaison with external partners, thought partner to product, operations, and development teams, and process owner for operational mechanisms that span across the organization.
The ideal candidate can communicate clearly and influence effectively, takes ownership, and has a strong health care background. The ideal candidate should have a robust understanding of health insurance concepts, lifecycle, and downstream impacts. Well-organized and possessing a deep knowledge of operational processes, you are able to capture, document, and investigate health plan operations needs and translate them into clear and concise business requirements, while partnering cross-functionally from concept to production. This role also helps develop departmental processes and procedures and necessary training when gaps are identified.
This role reports to the Director of Health Plan Operations.
- Perform complex analysis work including gathering, developing, and documenting health plan operations’ business requirements and processes.
- Coordinate and analyze health plan operations policies and procedures to determine their effect on systems and operational areas.
- Analyze existing business processes to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and areas for process improvement. Research, evaluate, and work closely with impacted team members to clearly document business requirements, help close identified gaps, and remove operational inefficiencies.
- Coordinate with team leads and subject matter experts to develop solutions that move the business forward faster and remove blockers for the Health Plan Operations team.
- Help inform and develop health plan operations’ departmental procedures and training.
- Ensures health plan operations’ project and process requirements are thoroughly documented and implemented in line with business needs.
- Maintain expert-level knowledge of the tools, platforms, and other business systems that drive our business.
- Mastery of data fields and system reporting in support of organizational visibility of trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Identify potential project and process risks and difficulties, and design strategies to mitigate or avoid them.
What We’re Looking For
- Passion for our mission of bringing affordable health care to all.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a hands-on, business analyst, or business operations role in the healthcare space. (Strong preference for experience within the health insurance industry.)
- Minimum 2 years experience analyzing, documenting, and implementing business requirements for health plan operations processes and projects.
- Experience acting in a liaison role between functional and technical teams.
- Experience conducting business analysis such as problem/opportunity analysis, business case development, and comprehensive risk assessments supporting value-based decision-making.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; devoid of technical language for non-technical audiences, while technically deep enough for the developer, product and marketing audience.
- Strong organizational skills, and proven ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities.
- Ability to thrive in an environment of ambiguity and autonomy while executing on a strategic vision.
- Strong demonstrated ownership of mistakes and shared accountability of wins.
- Analytical thinker with ability to perform root cause analysis, prepare and implement action plans, and lead initiatives under minimal supervision.
- Technical aptitude with an eagerness to learn new systems and tool functionality and how they impact overall health plan operations and stakeholder experiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively at both detail and big-picture levels to drive initiatives forward.
- Hands-on experience with Salesforce, ClickUp and team collaboration via Slack
