We are looking for a Lathe Operator for the Beaumont plywood facility. The primary purpose of this position is to set up operating and maintaining lathes to produce parts and components with precision within the maintenance department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the lathe is in proper operating condition/setup to properly process logs for the next step in the process to manufacture veneer for plywood manufacturing.
- Operate the lathe and correct any upset conditions during the process.
- Monitor the lathe throughout the operations to ensure continuous operation and detect any potential issues.
- Perform maintenance as needed. Change knives in lathe as needed.
- Communicate with maintenance concerning any operational issues with the press.
- Perform quality checks on veneer. Remove any bad veneer from the production to assure the bad veneer is not used in the panel. Meet quality standards. Communicate with management concerning any quality issues.
- Use an assortment of hand tools to complete daily clean-up duties, such as air hoses, shovels, etc.
- Operate mobile equipment as needed.
- Work with minimal supervision, in a safe and productive manner.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Adhere to all safety, health, and company policies, procedures, and guidelines. This includes wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Communicate with and follow directions from supervisors and maintenance personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Work in a hot, cold, noisy, industrial environment.
- Pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Perform tasks such as lifting, kneeling, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to 12 hours per day.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with wood products.
- Experience operating mobile equipment.
