Human Resources Manager - New York and Chicago

Ensure the provision of generalist Human Resources expertise to the New York and Chicago offices, acting as business partner to local Managing Director and other members of the management team and crewing/talent functions.


Key Responsibilities:


Employee Relations

  • Oversee all HR activities in the New York and Chicago offices;
  • Act as HR Business partner to local Managing Directors in New York and Chicago;
  • Provide advice and expertise to management at all levels on employee relation, performance management and other HR related matters;
  • Support and coach other team members through complex issues, as needed;
  • Ensure legal compliance and balance with commercial priorities;
  • Support employees at all levels with HR related queries and requests for information.

Payroll and Benefits Management

  • Oversee the successful running of payroll each pay period for New York and Chicago, providing advice and guidance to the Payroll & Benefits Specialist, as required;
  • Oversee benefit renewal process, make recommendations for improvements and ensure this is managed smoothly.

Team Management

  • Provide guidance and support to more junior team members on specific issues and projects;
  • In conjunction with the Global HR Director and HR peer group, manage the Global HR project plan and workload for the team;
  • Provide team members with the opportunities for growth and development.

Immigration

  • Provide support and guidance to Immigration Specialist;
  • Oversee immigration and visa applications for new and existing employees in New York and Chicago;
  • Take overall responsibility for immigration compliance;
  • Keep up to date with legal changes to immigration and communicate to key stakeholders.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Oversee and manage annual salary review process;
  • Undertake salary benchmarking/surveys and analysis, as required;
  • Work with HR Director and HR Manager, LA to develop strategies to improve the company’s compensation and benefits offering, with the aim of creating points of difference which make Framestore stand out from its competitors;
  • Find balance between obtaining value for money and ensuring a competitive benefits package.

HR Systems

  • Ensure HR and payroll Systems are kept updated and maintained;
  • Oversee training and support to Managers and employees on system usage.

Learning and Development

  • In partnership with HR Director and HR Manager, LA, undertake an annual training needs analysis for soft skills and management skills;
  • Oversee appraisal process for New York and Chicago office;
  • Provide management workshops on core areas such as performance, appraisal, absence etc;
  • Work with external training providers to scope out training requirements and organise training programmes;
  • Manage the soft skills training budget for the business and work with Global HR director to ensure it is utilised efficiently to support business aims.

Legal Compliance

  • Ensure our policies and procedures are legally compliant and review on an annual basis.

Other

  • Undertake project work and initiatives, as required;
  • Act as a role model and coach to teams;
  • Take on leadership role and participate as a member of the HR Global team, considering ways to enhance HR service and delivery;
  • Contributing ideas for continuous improvement;
  • Other duties as necessary.
  • Previous experience in an HR Manager/Senior Business Partner role
  • Experience operating within a creative or technical business
  • Knowledge and understanding of employee benefits
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Diplomatic with good negotiation skills
  • Positive and adaptable
  • Adopts a flexible approach, and adapts style to suit different situations and people
  • Ability to work with members of the team, sharing information and working collaboratively to achieve team objectives
  • Management skills and ability to motivate team members to achieve HR goals and objectives
  • Acts as an ambassador for the team both internally and externally
  • Identifies issues and works hard to implement sound solutions
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work with people at all levels
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Highly organised and methodical


Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience within the visual effects/film production sector
  • Knowledge of immigration processes
  • Degree and/or business qualification in HRM or equivalent
  • Previous experience of managing a team
