Public Awareness Specialist

Description

The Public Awareness Specialist is responsible for the development, coordination, administration, and evaluation of the statewide INPAA, Indiana Pipeline Awareness Association, program. This person provides auditing support, baseline compliance activity, and outreach assistance to INPAA members across four stakeholder groups (general public, emergency responders, local officials, and excavators). This role coordinates geographical outreach events and marketing efforts in Indiana’s three large territories. This person represents Indiana 811 at damage prevention efforts and educational events with the Education and Outreach Specialists. 

This position is based on a flexible schedule that requires travel which may include overnight stays and availability outside of working hours, including weekends. Willingness, ability, and the discipline to work from home is required.  Candidates must be a resident of the state of Indiana.

Requirements

The Public Awareness Specialist is responsible and accountable for:

  • Becoming a subject matter expert in INPAA baseline requirements as defined in RP (Recommended Practice) 1162, Public Awareness Programs for Pipeline Operators, in order to assist INPAA members in all four stakeholder groups with RP 1162 compliance documentation
  • Communicating, coordinating, and facilitating damage prevention and pipeline awareness events 
  • Serving as the liaison between INPAA contracted services and INPAA members
  • Developing, scheduling, coordinating, and evaluating statewide INPAA programs and initiatives
  • Planning key INPAA and Indiana 811 events, including securing venues, securing speakers, and preparing and delivering presentations
  • Establishing long-term and short-term goals for INPAA in collaboration with the Marketing and Events Coordinator
  • Initiating and overseeing the INPAA budget process and related accounts payable/receivable activity
  • Assisting with or coordinating supplemental communication to First Responders who do not attend the annual training on an as-needed basis
  • Providing member Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) auditing support, if needed
  • Serving as a representative of INPAA and Indiana 811 when attending damage prevention and pipeline awareness events
  • Assisting in other damage prevention activities on an as-needed basis 

Required skills, education, and experience:

  • Strong technology skills, including intermediate knowledge of Office 365
  •  Knowledge of RP (Recommended Practice) 1162 and/or Indiana Code 8-1-26 preferred
  • Utility damage prevention experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field desired; minimum of associate degree or 2 years of related experience required
  • Previous event planning experience required
  • Minimum 2 years of public speaking experience required
