What You Will Do

As a Phlebotomist, you will demonstrates confidence and skill in the application and management of venipuncture in a highly specialized, complex collection environment.  

The Opportunity

  • Reviews laboratory schedule: resolves or verifies orders as complete in the electronic medical record
  • Correctly identifies patient and record by name/date of birth
  • Explains process and reassures patient and/or family member(s)
  • Performs venipuncture/finger sticks per order
  • Captures and reports important medical data to nurse/provider
  • Responds quickly to syncopal episodes; notifies nurse/provider
  • Processes, packages, and stores specimens for courier pick-up or mailing
  • Orders and maintains adequate laboratory supplies
  • Maintains a clean, organized environment demonstrating a commitment to infection/exposure control and quality assurance
  • Terminally cleans lab at close of business
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of best practice guidelines and well-practiced in the safe handling of technical devices for procuring blood/urine specimens and capillary puncture
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s license and automobile insurance

The IHTC participates in national and international clinical research, including new infusion products and therapies, investigation of long-term outcomes, and the impact of associated conditions. The IHTC research program provides patients access to new therapies, and an opportunity to improve care. Our center has more than 50 clinical research projects involving bleeding disorders, sickle cell disease, thrombosis and more.
