Position Title: Investigative Analyst

Salary Range: $48,909 - $51,595

Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has multiple openings for Investigative Analysts who will be dedicated to enhancing evidence in gun prosecutions in the Trial Bureaus. The Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) in the Trial Bureaus are responsible for the investigation and prosecution of crimes of violence in Manhattan involving guns, ranging from homicides, to assaults, to criminal possession of weapons. In this position, Investigative Analysts are responsible for providing highly skilled analytical support to the Trial Bureaus’ ADAs and the office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with ADAs, the New York City Police Department, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to gather and analyze evidence that will be used for grand jury presentations and at trial. This will include ballistics evidence, trace data, DNA evidence, video evidence (both from government and private sources), and digital evidence.
  • Identify, gather, and review evidence in the crucial hours after an arrest to help the ADA draft a detailed presentation for arraignment.
  • Review arrest evidence, including recordings made by body worn and other cameras, and preparing integrated grand jury and trial exhibits from them.
  • Perform in-depth open source searches of investigative targets.
  • Mine social media and search warrant returns for corroborating evidence.
  • Analyze documentary evidence, including cell-site, call detail, financial, and social media records, to develop coherent understanding of the details of the case.
  • Work with police patrol officers and detectives.
  • Analyze evidence from multiple sources and connect how the items of evidence are related and interact with one another.
  • Review and transcribe Department of Corrections phone calls.
  • Generate trial and grand jury exhibits that effectively present the items of evidence and conclusions that can be drawn from them.
  • Work with other units in the office to obtain field intelligence and assist the ADAs in integrating it into the case analysis.
  • Collaborate with other units within DANY including the Violent Criminal Enterprises Unit, the Crime Strategies Unit, and different bureaus within the Investigation Division.
  • Perform other administrative and paralegal duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in the use of Excel to manage large amounts of data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and/or Clear required.
  • Proficiency in Internet search strategies and techniques.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple assignments required.
  • Ability to think and perform in a highly stressful and fast paced environment required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with law enforcement agencies to build institutional relationships.
  • Ability to communicate investigative and analytic results to other team members and to testify in court regarding exhibits.
  • Superior organizational, time management, writing and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to retain on the job training for majority of responsibilities and tasks.
  • Ability to be proactive and take initiative.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Prior legal, law enforcement or government internship or employment experience is highly sought for this position.
  • One year experience preferred, either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or experience conducting online research or other work in social media.

Commitment:

  • Two (2) year commitment to hiring bureau.
