GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Assistants perform entry-level professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Assistants work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar based on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving minor technology problems, monitoring activities, and maintaining documentation. They have latitude for independent initiative and judgment, under supervision.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college of over 17,000 students in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degrees in technology and health related degree programs, other career-oriented degrees and liberal arts transfer degrees in its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Technology and Design, and Professional Studies.

The Office of Computer Information Services (OCIS) at New York City College of Technology (City Tech) in downtown Brooklyn invites applications for the position of IT Assistant Level 1 (Telecommunications).

Reporting to the Telecommunications IT Assistant Level 3, the IT Assistant will be responsible for the following:

  • Monitor incoming Telecommunications tickets and fulfill service requests, or referring requests to supervisors or other technical staff as needed.
  • Provide support and training via Zoom to faculty/staff. Assist end users with installing software on PCs and mobile devices, or authenticating their machines. Provide end users with basic PC support. (Ex. Enabling headphones, clearing cache, etc.) Create technical documentation for end users as needed.
  • Provide end users with support and training on how to use Cisco Jabber.
  • Collaborate on projects with Project Manager, Network Support, PC Support, and Media Services.
  • Activate mobile devices for faculty/staff. Configure mobile devices for email, Wi-Fi, backups, etc.
  • Wipe mobile phone data.
  • Install Cisco Switches, IP cameras and Patch panels.
  • Assist with Aruba WAP configuration and installation.
  • Assist end users with downloading and signing into Global Protect
  • Perform cable management and labeling of Data/Voice cables. Run CAT5E/6 cabling for both Data/Voice, and scope out potential locations for cable installation.
  • Facilitate meetings between third party vendors and faculty/staff.
  • Contact and interact with vendors to acquire and implement software upgrades and equipment maintenance, and in the course of assisting end users. Submit support tickets to third-party vendors.
  • Migrate old phone system (Siemens) into the new one (Cisco).
  • Work with Cisco UCS.
  • Conduct VoIP moves, additions, and voicemail creation.
  • Create end users and hunt pilots in Cisco Jabber.
  • Prepare MiFi’s for distribution.
  • Assist Student Help Desk with MiFi related issues.
  • Assist in configuring and maintaining BridgeWave wireless equipment.
  • Utilize Cisco gateways to create POTS lines (Fax Machines/Elevators on VoIP).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

A minimum of six months of full-time experience in a computer or technology-related position. Experience that is more than 20 hours per week and less than 35 hours per week may be counted at 50% of the requirement (i.e., two months of part time experience equal to one month full time experience)

Additional experience and/or education that can be met by ONE of the following: An additional three years and six months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; an Associate's degree plus 18 months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

Demonstrated English Language proficiency

A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This title has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

COMPENSATION

New Hire: $49,211*

Incumbent: $55,608

  • This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
