We’re currently searching for a highly motivated Junior Applications Developer to join our Student Affairs IT team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. So, if you are a recent graduate or someone with 1-2 years of experience looking to gain hands-on experience and learn from a team of experienced developers, please keep reading.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ROLE:

You will:
  • Play a critical role in supporting our software development team by utilizing skills to blend the functional and technical aspects of processes and procedures.
  • Serve as a departmental resource for improved process management for service delivery to both internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate with a team of developers to design, develop, and maintain web applications to improve customer experience and enhance internal systems.
  • Configure vendor-hosted systems, create custom reporting/data extracts, and support special user needs
  • Work closely with student affairs IT staff to ensure IT resources (databases, web, and systems) are available, secured, and appropriately managed.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in software development.
  • Understanding of web application development and implementation.
  • Experience developing small to medium web applications.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the following technologies: Database Administration using MySQL, HTML, CSS, Java, PHP and JavaScript, XML and JSON formatting, Linux-based systems, and Apache Web Services.
  • Independent problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Strong communication and personal skills.
  • Strong understanding of web development principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Introductory knowledge of system design for physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure.
  • Ability to apply principles related to business intelligence, and mobile/web development to the Student Affairs areas.
  • Demonstrable experiences in working with the technologies previously described, as well as information technology resources for complex business organizations and in solving challenging problems related to system security, data loss prevention, identify loss prevention, and network security.
