Overview:
Full Time Schedule: 8am – 4:30pm
Purpose Statement/Position Summary: Under minimal supervision by Animal Care facility (ACF) Manager, position is responsible for performing a variety of highly technical husbandry, procedural and paraveterinary services in accordance with internal standard operating procedures (SOPs). Primary responsibilities include provision of animal care, maintenance of assigned work space, provision of advanced veterinary and rodent colony management services, basic and advanced training for ACF staff and research personnel, and dispensing of controlled and non-controlled veterinary drugs. In the absence of the ACF manager, position will lead assigned work groups in daily, weekly and monthly tasks and will trouble shoot day to day issues that arise within the ACF. Position is also responsible for providing animal husbandry, including weekends and holidays, as needed. Position must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills using clinical laboratory animal health terminology and must demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) for communications and recordkeeping. Requires advanced understanding of, and ability to utilize common animal care facility systems, including ventilated cage racks, automated watering system, cage wash equipment, anesthesia equipment and environmental monitors and the ability to train others in proper use of ACF equipment.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: Required to work around various types of animals and with live cultures. A minimum of 5 years experience in In Vivo Husbandry/research experience in an AAALAC accredited facility required. 1 year Zebrafish handling and husbandry experience preferred. Rodent animal handling (injection, blood draw), health monitoring and familiarity with rodent research equipment required. Familiarity with Zebrafish husbandry and equipment preferred. Quality Assurance and Animal Care Facility Management experience preferred. Rodent colony management skills required. Ability to move heavy wheeled equipment and lift up to 30 lbs.
Education/Licensure/Certification: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required; Biology or Animal Health Sciences Bachelor of Science preferred. AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification required.
Pay Scale Information: USD $39,728.00 - USD $68,650.00

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
