The Department: Compliance

The Role: Lead, Sanctions Advisory

The Compliance Lead, Sanctions Advisory, is a senior member of the Compliance team, responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Sanctions Compliance Program globally across Gemini, while promoting consistency. In this role, you will serve as the global sanctions subject matter expert and escalation point for the broader Compliance department and other functions.   To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong knowledge of the OFAC requirements, global sanctions standards, and industry best practices.  

Responsibilities:

  • Drive an effective sanctions compliance program to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Use strong knowledge of sanctions laws/regulations to provide guidance to business and compliance personnel
  • Serve as the central point of contact for all OFAC-related escalations, issues, and best practices
  • Establish and update policy and minimum procedures to ensure compliance with OFAC filtering and reporting requirements for all business units
  • Ensure sanctions compliance policies and procedures remain up to date
  • Work closely with Financial Crimes counsel and Compliance personnel to effectively drive and execute on sanctions compliance framework
  • Be responsible for timely OFAC reporting (Annual Blocked Property, Blocked or Rejected Transactions)
  • Draft and file necessary disclosures to OFAC
  • Advise and oversee the continued global effective implementation and refinement of a robust sanctions risk and controls framework
  • Maintain and manage internal watch lists, and coordinate with other internal groups on timely and accurate implementation of all watch lists
  • Work cross-functionally to address and remediate sanctions-related issues

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant OFAC/sanctions experience in the financial services, fintech, or consulting industry
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. sanctions regulations (including OFAC, Department of State, Commerce Department) and familiarity with global sanctions regulations
  • Experience with transaction monitoring in the context of sanctions compliance
  • Proven change agility capability
  • Experience working in a global program 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are important, as well as the ability to analyze and assess new rules and regulations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to function as a trusted advisor to control functions
  • Fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of and interest in disruptive technology, financial services, or security; prior experience working in fintech, or advancements in digital assets or high-growth tech companies payments a plus
  • Experience working for or with an international company is preferred
  • Proven ability to proactively, efficiently, and accurately assess risks in a fast-paced environment
  • Track record of creative problem-solving, excellent written and oral communication skills, and creation of strong and trusted cross-functional relationships
  • JD preferred
