Library Technician

Introduction

Expand your customer service skills, and gain experience working various projects. Join the Potomac Library and work in a diverse, dynamic community. We are seeking an energetic, motivated team player for a full-time Library Technician position.

About This Role:
Provide excellent front line customer service to patrons of all ages.
Oversee the circulation department in absence of supervisor, ensuring daily reports are processed and managing workflow.
Responsible for opening and closing circulation desk procedures.
Assist with resolving patron account issues.
Use library system software to check out, check-in, create and renew accounts, reserved materials for patrons.
Assist patrons using various office equipment such as copiers, fax, and kiosk machines.
Handle cash and prepares daily financial reports.
Responsible for collection maintenance duties by monitoring collection maintenance folder and process recalled and weeded items.
Serve as a Passport Acceptance Agent, processing passport applications and taking passport pictures.
Provide training to staff members and patrons.
Participate in outreach events and workgroup sessions.

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D.

Preferences:
Experience working with a diverse population in a dynamic customer service field.
Experience reviewing and handling confidential documents.
Cash handing and preparing financial documents experience.
Experience with Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, and common office equipment.
Experience delegating tasks to staff members
Creative problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Experience training both staff and patrons.
A demonstrated history of keeping pace with technology trends and learning new skills.

Special Requirements: The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.

Work Schedule:
This is a non-exempt 37.5 hour per week position. Scheduled hours will fall within the following times: Monday – Wednesday 9 am -8 pm, Thursday and Saturday 9 am – 5 pm. Schedule may vary depending on the needs of the library. Weekend and evening work are required.

Starting Salary Range:
$20.62 - $26.00 Hourly
