Director of Engineering - Platform API

The YouVersion Platform API Director of Engineering is primarily responsible for managing the daily operations for the Platform API engineering team in collaboration with engineering leadership and product management.

The YouVersion Platform Director of Engineering will lead the team through the engineering process, provide technical foresight for the team’s strategy to ensure efforts are aligned with the overall YouVersion strategy.


What You'll Do
  • Lead all stages of the software delivery lifecycle to deliver reliable, scalable, and performant YouVersion Platform API services.
  • Prioritize across multiple stakeholder requests while facilitating project planning and resource allocation to meet product and technical goals.
  • Empower direct reports through coaching, setting clear expectations, and development plans.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to develop and cast vision for the team.
  • Partner with the engineering leadership to attract, retain, and develop exceptional engineering talent within the growing YouVersion Platform engineering team.
  • Provide technical foresight for the team and identify areas of improvement.
  • Maintain the technical roadmap for the YouVersion Platform API team to ensure efforts align with the overall YouVersion strategy.
  • Responsibly manage “technical debt” among various software services.
  • Manage costs in connection to performance gains to ensure stewardship.


Skills Needed to Succeed
  • Experience building and maintaining robust software services with high scalability and reliability.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to foster relationships and partnerships.
  • Ability to self‐motivate, make independent decisions, and solve problems.
  • Maintain flexibility and initiate the creation of new processes and project strategies.
  • Ability to manage conflict and differing opinions while maintaining composure.
  • Strong leadership skills and understanding of developing and guiding others.
  • Ability to take a great vision and turn it into reality through strategic execution.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of related work experience.
