The Mechanism Designer will be a key player in the development of our advanced weapons systems, focusing on mechanism design, prototyping and design for manufacturing. This role demands deep technical skills and creativity in mechanism creation, computer aided design (CAD), and design for manufacturing (DFM), as well as a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing techniques like machining, stamping/forging, 3D printing, and casting. You will be a core member of the design team, contributing to the gun systems project.
CAD. Leverage your proficiency in CAD to design various components across multiple projects, ensuring they are optimized for performance and reliability.
Manufacturability. Utilize your expertise in manufacturing techniques and sound engineering principles to evaluate the structural integrity and manufacturability of designs.
Prototype Assembly. Take an active role in the assembly and troubleshooting of completed designs, ensuring they meet all performance and quality metrics.
Mechanism Design. Bring a creative mindset and appreciation of elegant mechanisms to help create loading mechanisms, projectile handling, and recoil mitigation systems.
Collaboration. Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate your designs into the broader project scope.
Materials Knowledge. Leverage your understanding of metallurgy, machining, thermal treatments to enrich the design and manufacturing process.
Machining and Fabrication. Use hands-on experience in machining and fabrication to provide meaningful guidance in hardware design.
Continuous Learning. Keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and methodologies in mechanical engineering and manufacturing to bring innovative solutions to the team.
Quality Assurance. Ensure that all designs and assemblies meet predefined quality, performance, and safety standards.
Documentation. Maintain meticulous records of design and manufacturing protocols for compliance and future reference.
Proficiency in NX, Creo, Solidworks or similar parametric CAD software.
Proven experience in mechanical prototyping and design, preferably in a product development setting.
A healthy portfolio of creative work you can’t wait to share.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Ability to work on-site in Orange County, CA.
U.S. security clearance eligibility.
Experienced NX user.
Experience with Teamcenter
Prior Experience making weapon systems for the DOD.
CAM and CNC Machining experience.
Someone who is not just a mechanical engineer by profession but also a hardware enthusiast at heart. Prior experience with aerospace hardware and a strong background in machining and fabrication will be highly valued. The ideal candidate will be a highly creative designer who has a history of seeing the most creative and elegant solutions to the problem at hand.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only.
