Mechanical Engineer - Mechanism Design

Role Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer will be a key player in the development of our advanced weapons systems, focusing on mechanism design, prototyping and design for manufacturing. This role demands deep technical skills in mechanism creation, CAD and DFM, as well as a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing techniques like machining, composites, 3D printing, and casting. You will be a core member of the design team, contributing substantially to both the Medusa and gun projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. CAD Design:
    Leverage your proficiency in CAD to design various components across multiple projects, ensuring they are optimized for manufacturability.

  2. Structures and Manufacturability Analysis:
    Utilize your expertise in manufacturing techniques and sound engineering principles to evaluate the structural integrity and manufacturability of designs.

  3. Prototype Assembly:
    Take an active role in the assembly and troubleshooting of completed designs, ensuring they meet all performance and quality metrics.

  4. Mechanism Design:
    Bring a creative mindset and appreciation of elegant mechanisms to help create loading mechanisms, projectile handling, and recoil mitigation systems.

  5. Collaboration:
    Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate your designs and analyses into the broader project scope.

  6. Materials Knowledge:
    Leverage your understanding of metallurgy, machining, thermal treatments to enrich the design and manufacturing process.

  7. Machining and Fabrication:
    Use hands-on experience in machining and fabrication to provide meaningful guidance in hardware design.

  8. Continuous Learning:
    Keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and methodologies in mechanical engineering and manufacturing to bring innovative solutions to the team.

  9. Quality Assurance:
    Ensure that all designs and assemblies meet predefined quality, performance, and safety standards.

  10. Documentation:
    Maintain meticulous records of designs, analyses, and manufacturing protocols for compliance and future reference.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in NX, Creo, Solidworks or similar CAD software.

  • Proven experience in mechanical prototyping and design, preferably in a product development setting.

  • Hands-on experience with machining and fabrication.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Ability to work on-site in Orange County, CA.

  • U.S. security clearance eligibility.

Bonus Points:

  • Experienced NX user

  • Experience with Team Center and ERP systems.

  • Prior Experience making weapon systems for the DOD.

  • CAM / CNC Machining experience

Ideal Candidate:

Someone who is not just a mechanical engineer by profession but also a hardware enthusiast at heart. Prior experience with aerospace hardware and a strong background in machining and composites will be highly valued. The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver who is adept at turning complex engineering challenges into practical, manufacturable solutions.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offers may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and training, critical skills, and business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in most offers and are considered part of Mach’s total compensation package.
