Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Key team member in the book printing department
  • Sets up and operates the collator, bindery equipment and three knife trimmer station.
  • Monitors the job management software to ensure that all machines are set up and ready for all future jobs in the daily queue
  • Performs continuous inspections on trimming, gluing, cover placement, cooling and cutting functions to ensure achievement of productivity targets and quality standards.
  • Ensures that covers are adhering to the book.
  • Conducts machine changeovers throughout the day.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and makes minor repairs as needed. Alerts department mechanic of any technical problems.
  • Builds cartons and prints EAN labels for daily book output
  • Palletizes finished product.
  • Maintains and completes various reports including time and production records as required.
  • Keeps machinery clean and performs routine operator services to maintain the orderliness and operating status of the machines. Restocks the binder and collator with glue and covers as needed throughout the day.
  • Follows standard operating procedures as instructed and adopts practices and behaviors that achieve efficiency and productivity rates.
  • Adheres to quality specifications within each assignment and performs prescribed quality checks as instructed.
  • Works collaboratively as member of team and must demonstrate support of Harlequin Guiding Behaviors when working with others.
  • Follows all safety guidelines and procedures
  • Supports 6S initiatives ensuring all production areas are clean and free from debris and pallets throughout the day. Completes the 6S end of shift checklist daily.
  • Meets with personally (1st Shift) or leaves comprehensive notes (2nd shift) for the following shift, every day.
  • Maintenance of the waste removal system when necessary. Removal of scrap paper and cardboard, daily.
  • Peforms marginal tasks as needed.

Qualifications:
SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • S. diploma or GED required.
  • Mechanical aptitude required.
  • Computer and touch screen interaction required
  • MS Excel, Outlook and label making software use required daily
  • Six months to one-year previous machine operation with experience in troubleshooting, setup and operation preferred.
  • Knowledge of UPC/EAN cover codes required.
  • Knowledge of PkMS (or other warehouse management system) required, including inventory adjustment of consumables and placing of completed books into inventory.
  • Must be able to communicate with mechanic and other printing equipment operators.
