- Sort and process all incoming and outgoing mail; weigh, meter, and prepare mail for delivery in accordance with United States Postal Service, United Parcel Service, Federal Express, DHL, or other pertinent guidelines and regulations; operate mail metering machine.
- Maintain a variety of records regarding receipt and delivery of United Parcel Service, United Postal Service, Federal Express, DHL and other mail service packages.
- Determine proper destinations for mail and packages with wrong or incomplete addresses, route mail to appropriate locations. Operate look-up terminals.
- Attain and maintain familiarity with campus mail delivery routes; deliver mail to on-campus and off-campus locations as directed.
- Attain and maintain working knowledge of policies and procedures of the U.S. Postal Service, United Parcel Service, FedEx, DHL and campus mail service operations.
- Attain and maintain knowledge of postal regulations for various classes of mail.
- Attain and maintain working knowledge to operate the internet-based FedEx shipping computer and separate UPS shipping computer and report procedures.
- Handle money from UPS and FedEx personal mailings. Balance daily receipts in the cash register and prepare weekly deposit of monies received.
- Receive and process credit card and settlement transactions and follow reporting procedures.
- Attain and maintain working knowledge to operate the computer network linked package receipt, delivery and tracking system with mobile delivery handheld scanners. Perform searches for receipt, courier information, deliveries, signature captures and other information as needed.
- Provide general assistance to the Mail Room Supervisor as requested. Participate in special projects as assigned.
High school diploma and previous experience processing mail; knowledge of the United States Postal Service regulations and familiarity with and ability to operate postal equipment, labeler/tabber, and postage meter; ability to operate a desktop computer, good organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to follow written and verbal directions, a valid N.Y. State driver's license, and ability to lift up to 70 pounds are required. Experience handling cash transactions and driving a delivery vehicle preferred.
