CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of Delaware is nationally recognized for its exceptional educational experiences and for integrating instruction, research, and public engagement. With 24 academic departments in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, more than 25 centers, programs, and institutes, and featuring outstanding research and teaching facilities, CAS serves over 7,500 students, is supported by approximately 400 staff, and maintains annual operating expenditures of over $121M. The College’s 600 faculty members emphasize the enduring value of an arts and sciences education and a deep commitment to excellence in scholarship and all forms of creative and intellectual expression, with sponsored research expenditures totaling more than $38.6M per fiscal year.

The Communications Team within the College of Arts and Sciences provides communications and marketing support and services for all departments, programs and centers across the College. Under the limited direction of the Director, Communications, the Digital Communications Manager provides strategic direction and manages the execution and optimization of the College’s digital marketing and communications in support of the CAS mission and strategic direction. Channels include but are not limited to web sites and mobile applications, social media, search engine optimization (SEO), digital media and analytics.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage, develop, and execute integrated channel and content strategies for digital assets across the College, including but not limited to social media, websites, videos, and infographics, that communicate and achieve College objectives.

  • Assess the effectiveness of the CAS digital communications strategy, including creating and incorporating new digital programs and techniques to engage with the CAS community.

  • Work closely with faculty, departmental leadership, and the Director, Communications to translate strategic goals into focused digital communications and marketing objectives with observable, measurable, and defined outcomes.

  • Develop and execute paid digital marketing strategies for the College.

  • Manage communications team members as identified by the Director, Communications. Ensure appropriate training, adherence to policy and procedure, and staff development.

  • Create, coordinate, and lead training and workshops on relevant content management systems, content, and multimedia tools.

  • Analyze all digital experiences, perform content audits, and evaluate messaging needs with an eye to simplification and content-driven strategy.

  • Manages the College’s email marketing efforts.

  • Analyze web and social media analytics and related data to evaluate College digital performance, develop strategic insights and recommendations, and translate them to a strategic plan to measure performance against objectives.

  • Manage a master contact and content calendar for all digital properties.

  • Define, document, and maintain guidelines for content and metadata.

  • Serve as the CAS Communications liaison to the CAS IT team. Work closely with the CAS IT Director to determine strategic technical solutions to support digital communications efforts.

  • Adhere to University Brand Guides, marketing policies, and policies and procedures governing IT/web efforts.

  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, tools, and platforms across the entire digital landscape, and educate and inspire College constituents on all things digital.

  • Provide communications support as needed as part of the CAS Communications Team.

  • Provide backup for the Director, Communications as needed.

  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Assists with special projects and performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communication, or related field with at least 5-7 years’ experience developing and executing digital content strategies.

  • Experience managing employees and staff.

  • Familiarity with user-centered design principles, content creation and engagement, SEO knowledge and optimization, and digital best practices.

  • Experience aligning digital content strategies with audience behaviors, goals, and key messages to drive engagement.

  • Superior written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and public speaking skills, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to evaluate and edit the content, structure, and format of a range of written and visual materials, including effective web authoring skills and familiarity with a wide range of web 2.0 applications.

  • Robust understanding of website analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics) and social media management tools, and a demonstrated ability to translate data to meaningful insights and content strategy recommendations.

  • Familiarity working with a variety of digital communications vehicles, including mobile, e-mail and web communications (e.g. MailChimp, Google Apps, etc.).

  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications (MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite). Strong visual design skills are a plus.

  • Ability to work effectively, manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously and under tight deadlines, often switching gears multiple times a day among a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

  • Familiarity with web standards, accessibility, and usability.

  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
