The Manager of Platform Engineering leads and manages platform engineering teams responsible for creating and maintaining a self-service platform that will enable software engineering teams to deploy their software to production in an efficient manner.

As part of our team, your main responsibilities will be:
Application Development
  • Manages platform engineers and other assigned staff to ensure the timely release of software.
  • Collaborates with software engineering teams to prioritize the work for a platform as a product solution.
  • Takes pride in leading teams in their efforts to design, implement, and maintain an internal development platform (IDP).
  • Ensures applications and environments are secure and highly available.
  • Enforces the adherence of compliance and security standards across teams.
  • Collaborates with technical leaders to define, implement, and monitor quality and application metrics.
  • Manages and leads teams responsible for developing and maintaining automated, reusable, and clean Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Manages and leads teams responsible for developing and maintaining efficient and reusable CI/CD Pipelines.
  • Manages and leads teams to ensure consistent monitoring and management of cloud services and costs.
  • Defines the best practices and standards for processes pertaining to releasing software.
  • Works with management defining the departmental budget, vision, roadmaps and goals and plays a key role in the implementation of this vision.
  • Sets clear productivity, quality, and development objectives for the assigned staff and tracks progress on an individual basis.
  • Leads training efforts associated with new tools and processes.
  • Acts as technology subject matter expert in one or more technical areas.
  • Collaborates with Project Managers, Product Leads, and Product Managers to gain an understanding of the business requirements for assigned tasks.
  • Motivates staff and strengthens teamwork.
  • Researches, evaluates, and implements new technologies into the current SDLC.
  • Contributes in the creation of departmental procedure documents and working instructions.
  • Provides technical leadership to drive the successful completion of projects.
  • Takes active participation in technical training and mentoring for engineers.
  • Creates and/or approves technical design documentation.
  • Performs code reviews.
  • Ensures all technical documentation is in place, reviewed and approved for projects.
  • Acts as facilitator and enhances projects with sharp focus towards long-term architectural improvements.
  • Defines code re-use strategy for team and productivity goals for assigned staff. Tracks and reports progress on these goals and technical initiatives on a quarterly basis.
  • Works with management to define and implement software development team technology roadmap, goals, and vision.
Application Support
  • Ensures all required change control documentation is included including updates to requirements, design and other technical documents as required.
  • Provides after hours support as required.
Quality System Responsibilities
  • Performs all work in accordance with documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Adheres to Good Clinical Practices (GCP), 21 CFR Part 11 and other regulatory requirements.
You’ll need to bring:
  • 7+ years professionally releasing, developing and/or deploying software.
  • 2-5 years managing development teams.
  • Experience providing technical leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in planning individual and teamwork goals, evaluating employee performance, coaching and developing employees, and resolving individual and team conflicts and performance issues.
  • Experience with some or all the following areas:
  • Jenkins
  • ArgoCD
  • Azure DevOps
  • AWS CodePipeline
  • Terraform
  • CloudFormation
  • Clinical Data (FHIR, HL7, CDISC, BRIDG)
  • Electronic Data Capture applications
  • eCOA, eClinRo, ePRO solutions
  • Learning Management Systems
  • Clinical Trial Management Systems
  • AWS
  • Azure
  • CI/CD Tooling
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Tooling
  • Kubernetes
  • Cloud Governance, Security, and Networking
  • Application Security and Monitoring
  • Microservices
  • Proven skills in managing multiple conflicting priorities for assigned team(s) of employees.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, analytical and decision-making skills in order to efficiently evaluate, plan and accomplish work goals.
  • Experience estimating development and support tasks.
  • Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11 or experience in a regulated environment desirable.

  • Demonstrate extreme attention to detail and organization in all aspects of work.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technical major.
  • Demonstrated experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • AWS, cybersecurity, and/or networking certifications are desirable.
