Manufacturing Engineer - New Product Introduction

Position Overview:

The Manufacturing Engineer will act as the New Product Introduction Engineer. You will be responsible for the transition of new products and processes from engineering to manufacturing and supply chain. This position will work closely with product engineering to define manufacturing requirements within the New Product Development (NPD) process. This role will manage cross functional deliverables, develop schedules, track progress against these plans, and ensure new products are brought to market on time with expected quality and cost performance. This includes managing the project from early prototype builds through the launch of full production. Will requires exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply DFx (manufacturing, quality, sourcing, service and cost) methods into new product designs. Work with R&D team to integrate DFx principles early in the design process and promote a concurrent engineering approach throughout the organization.
  • Conduct manufacturing readiness assessments. Review engineering drawings and technical documentation to ensure all requirements are met before transition to manufacturing and supply chain. Coordinate factory acceptance test requirements and execution. Provide lessons learned from product rollouts and provide recommendations for future designs and processes.
  • Ability to develop schedules for new product releases to customer sites, set milestones, assess & mitigate risks, develop action plans, coordinate activities and drive results within cross-functional teams
  • Conduct regular project status meetings with Cross functional team and relevant stakeholders to communicate and coordinate activities. Act as the manufacturing liaison to Engineering team and Operations for resolving technical problems and provide rapid prototyping support.
  • Identify & develop key manufacturing partners, verify technical capability and ensure vendors can support full-scale production ramps.
  • Participate in early-stage product development and communicate expectations and ensure the successful capture of Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Test, Installation & Service requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current technical skills in electro-mechanical manufacturing environment or process.
  • At least 4 years of experience in New Product Introduction (prototype to volume ramp-up) or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Prior project management experience such as such as setting up for new contract manufacturer CM process preferred as well as ownership of schedule and budget.
  • Experience with FMEA, DOE, and continual process improvement.
  • Excellent problem solving, project management skills and knowledgeable in FMEA
  • Candidate must have strong written& verbal communication skills.
  • Candidate must be Self-driven and seek out answers to questions with the appropriate stake holders.
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook & Microsoft teams.
  • Experience with NX & Teamcenter would be beneficial. Experience with developing Assembly Instructions is a plus.
  • A desire to have hands on approach with early builds is critical. This role will be required to assemble early units to define the production processes.
  • Candidate will need to assist floor personnel with training as new products transition into production.
  • Work environment is that of a typical manufacturing operation. A successful candidate will need to be able to stand, walk, kneel, or sit at a desk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, twist, stretch, push, pull, carry and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Willingness to travel to support global manufacturing sites for new process implementation activities up to 10%.
