The Striping Technician provides for the safe and efficient movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic through the installation and maintenance of roadway pavement markings and documentation of those markings.

We Require

  • One year of experience in traffic control or traffic operations, including installation and maintenance of traffic control devices, or two years of experience in the maintenance, repair, or construction of roads.

  • High school diploma or GED 

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain an American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Flagging certification within six months of hire

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

  • Completion of IMSA level 1 Signs & Markings

  • Completion of "ATSSA Flagger" and "ATSSA Traffic Control Technician"

  • Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement

Job Contributions

  • Install and maintain roadway pavement markings

  • Operate a 2 ½ ton paint stripe truck, Chase truck, sweeper, or other vehicles and equipment as needed

  • Load and unload equipment and materials

  • Perform pre-check and pre-inspection of vehicles

  • Read maps, plan routes, prioritize assigned tasks, clean, and maintain paint system

  • Interpret and/or draw traffic diagrams and/or sketches of pavement marking layouts

  • Interpret and mark roadways for the application of the appropriate roadway markings

  • Assess and report roadway and traffic control conditions

  • Operate and maintain two-way radio contact with MCDOT Dispatch

  • Other job duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

Machines, tools, equipment, software, and hardware

  • Long line stripers, attenuators, short line stripers, sweepers, hand grinders and vacuum systems, pickup trucks, hauling trucks, paint shakers, computer systems, Outlook, and Cartegraph

Protective equipment required

  • Steel toe boots, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, Type 3 Reflective Vest, and County uniform
