THE TEAM

Make-A-Wish America is the national headquarters for our organization, providing resources and support for our Chapters around the country. This team is comprised of innovative nonprofit professionals who elevate our mission across the organization, focusing programs that are unique to wish granting.


THE ROLE

The Medical Affairs Manager has two main responsibilities. The first is to determine eligibility for potential wish children requiring review by the Medical Affairs team and/or the National Medical Advisory Council. Secondary responsibilities include providing a wide range of support to constituents which includes training and education to on medical eligibility, medical outreach, data reporting, travel safety and outcomes for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and its chapters under the direction of the Director of Medical Affairs and in collaboration with the National Medical Advisory Council. This position aids nationwide program and policy initiatives to ensure consistency, brand integrity, child focus, and mitigation in the organization’s medical eligibility efforts. This is a national office position that does not involve direct patient care.


WHERE YOU COME IN

As the Medical Affairs Manager you will:

  • Support National eligibility determination for the organization in the Intake and Medical Eligibility module of the Wish & Volunteer Center, escalating the most difficult cases to the National Medical Advisory Council in collaboration with the Director of Medical Affairs.
  • Collaborate to develop and support the IME system in all aspects which may include cross-collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, development of training tools in mixed media format, providing support to chapter staff, or working with other departments and chapters to refine or enhance the system.
  • Develop and support chapters with onboarding and development of newly hired staff who work with medical eligibility and outreach.
  • Develop and support Nursing volunteers, working with the National office in the eligibility system as well as other medical safety related projects.
  • Development and execution of a national medical outreach plan, in collaboration with the Director of Medical Affairs, Chapter Support Team, Chapters and Brand Advancement when appropriate.
  • Develop a network of chapter medical outreach specialists to share chapter best practices, training, and expertise.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Medical Affairs to maintain the network of Chapter Medical Advisors.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to chapters regarding medical eligibility and referrals.
  • Assist with onboarding newly hired staff who work with medical eligibility and outreach.
  • Provide first-level triage for chapter inquiries related to medical affairs and travel safety, referring the most complex cases to the Director of Medical Affairs.
  • Develop and maintain the national ‘toolbox’ of resources and best practices to assist chapters in the areas of medical eligibility and outreach.
  • Develop, deliver, and provide training to constituents regarding medical topics. This may include department members, chapters, families, and external referral sources using multiple media formats such as webinars, meetings, learning pathways, documents, etc.
  • Develop and manage projects with consideration to the timeline, resources, budget, and key stakeholders.
  • Search current literature for relevant data to the mission and current projects.
  • Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
  • Collaborate and provide support to the National Medical Advisory Council when appropriate.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required, Master’s degree in nursing/nursing education preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional nursing experience in a pediatric health-related discipline, or a similar position with a hospital, clinic, or non-profit health services organization.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Presentation development and skills required.
