The Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) is seeking a Research Analyst to support a federal grant program with implementing initiatives to detect, prevent, and respond to COVID-19 and other infectious disease outbreaks. This grant will support ongoing efforts to identify and address health inequities in Davidson County exacerbated by COVID-19. The primary role of the Research Analyst is to... provide technical expertise in data analysis, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods, and to prepare reports for diverse audiences. This individual will collaborate closely with the grant team, contributing to broader organizational initiatives aimed at translating data into practice, policy development, continuous quality improvement, and performance management and tracking. They will also ensure that data is effectively communicated back to community members and will develop innovative methods for gathering input and feedback to inform actionable solutions.
Working with the grant team, this position will collaborate across MPHD Bureaus and programs, as well as with local and national partners, to advance practices, strategies, and policies that promote health equity in Davidson County.
The ideal candidate will share a collective vision to transform public health practice and challenge systemic processes to address health disparities within our community.
• Utilize health equity and social determinants of health frameworks to develop data collection instruments such as surveys, questionnaires, and interview guides.
• Performs literature searches to address specific data and project needs.
• Determines appropriate sampling techniques, statistics and conducts data analysis.
• Develops and implements data collection and analysis plans, including sampling methods, data analysis, interpretation, limitations, and reporting.
• Interprets statistical results, identifies problems, gaps, and provides supporting evidence.
• Utilizes existing data systems, such as REDCap for survey data collection.
• Designs, develops, and presents data in various forms such as charts, graphs, tables, narratives, oral presentation, etc., that are used for the purposes of quality improvement, proposed legislation, budget, resource and policy planning, intervention program planning, and community education.
• Maintains and refines reports, dashboards, and processes to continuously monitor data quality and integrity.
• Conducts qualitative analysis of narrative information which may include community listening sessions, town halls, or patient satisfaction narrative information.
• Holds administrative responsibility and oversight of data systems, reporting and information systems, and other third-party systems as assigned.
• Collaborates with community members (and partner organizations) regarding the collection and reporting of program data and incorporates feedback for process improvement.
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years’ experience in operations research and analysis techniques.
OR
Master’s degree in business or public Administration, Education, Psychology, or a related field of study from an accredited college or university and two (2) years’ experience in operations research and analysis techniques.
• Expertise in health equity and social determinants of health frameworks, cross-sectional health equity data and metrics, and a strong understanding of intersectionality of social categorizations and its relationship to health inequities
• Skills in qualitative analytic methodologies including deductive and inductive.
• Skills in quantitative and qualitative report preparation and presentation.
• Knowledge of culturally responsive and equitable research principles.
• Knowledge of and experience with community-based participatory research methods.
• Knowledge of inferential and descriptive statistics and applications.
• Skills in the application of parametric and nonparametric statistics, program evaluation and evaluative methods.
• Ability to translate complex data and statistical results into easily understood information for a variety of audiences
