Sales Attorney for Criminal Defense Firm

Michael and Associates is a new type of criminal defense firm seeking a Sales/Intake Attorney to help the firm onboard clients.

We’re not your run-of-the-mill criminal defense practice, and our ambitions aren’t small. Since launching in Texas, our phones have been ringing off the hooks due to our new approach, and we’re already one of the largest firms in the state. And now we’re bringing our model to California.

We’re taking best practices of the world’s leading tech companies and applying them to the legal industry to create a criminal defense firm unlike any other.

If you are a licensed attorney that enjoys being on the phone with potential clients, this job may be for you.

About This Role

As a Sales/Intake Attorney, you are the tip of the spear for the firm. You are the first interaction people have, and you represent the firm’s brand to all potential new clients.

Your job is to talk with potential clients, understand their case, and sell them on the value our firm could bring to their case. Most of the people you will be talking to are going through one of the worst experiences of their lives; it’s your job to listen, empathize with them, and put them at ease. This role provides an opportunity to have a truly positive impact on thousands of peoples lives.

Job responsibilities:

  • New Client Acquisition: Each day, you will be responsible for a schedule of calls with ~20 potential new clients. Each one has already been pre-qualified for you, so you will only be talking to people who we can actually help. Your job is to understand their circumstances, demonstrate the value of our firm, answer all of their questions and ultimately sign up clients so that we can provide them with the best defense possible.
  • Develop Deep Expertise: A big part of signing up new clients is education. You will develop a deep knowledge of not only criminal law, but also how we approach various types of cases. You should be able to answer any question with confidence and display expertise in the law.
  • Put PNCs at Ease: Being charged with a crime is one of the most stressful things someone can go through. As you talk to them, you will put them at ease, give them hope, and, most importantly, the confidence that they are hiring the absolute best legal team possible.
  • Representing the Firm’s Premium Brand: Michael & Associates is a premium firm built around the message of “Zealous Advocacy”. As a client’s first touch point, you are one of the firm’s primary spokespeople. It’s of utmost importance that every person you talk to leaves the call thinking “wow, Michael & Associates really cares”.

What makes this job so great?

1) Early Role at a Growing Firm: We’re already on track to become one of the largest criminal defense firms in Texas, and you’ll be getting in on the ground floor with our expansion into California. You’ll have the chance to build something from scratch, as opposed to just maintaining the status quo.

2) Personal Growth: For the most part there really isn’t that much room for growth in the criminal defense field; the max responsibility you can ever hope for is to be a senior lawyer at a tiny firm.

Yet every other type of law - corporate, civil litigation, personal injury - has massive firms with endless opportunities for advancement. Why not criminal defense?

We’re creating a nation-wide firm where attorneys can grow, be challenged, enjoy their work and their coworkers. And speaking of how we do things differently…

3) A Forward-Thinking Firm: Let’s be honest, the legal profession isn’t exactly what you think of when you hear “cutting edge”. We’re going to change that.

We embrace technology and continuous improvement. We believe leveraging technology makes us more efficient and leads to better client service.

4) We Play as a Team: When a client hires us, they get the full force of the entire firm. There are no lone wolves here. We believe teamwork not only leads to a better work environment, but better outcomes for our clients.

5) A Chance to Make a Difference: Every day we are helping improve our clients’ lives in a big way. Just check out our Google reviews to see the stories. We are Zealous Advocates for our clients, always going the extra mile to get them the best possible outcome. We don’t just settle for “good enough.”

And it doesn’t stop with defending clients; we promise to provide high-touch, white glove service from start to finish, all while making this a stress-free experience for the client.

To sum it up, if you’re an extroverted, outgoing lawyer who loves engaging with clients, and who is looking to help redefine the criminal defense field, we’d love to talk.

PS: Not the job you’re looking for? Tell your friends! We offer a $5,000 referral fee to anybody who refers a candidate that we hire (with some stipulations of course).

  • You Enjoy Doing Consults and Have Spent at least 1 year selling to new clients: You will be talking a lot on the phone every single day. If you don’t absolutely love being on the phone talking to and engaging meaningfully with potential clients all day, this job is not for you.
  • Great Phone Sales Skills: In addition to enjoying talking on the phone, you need to have great sales skills. You need to be friendly and empathetic, but also confident, competent in the law, and able to handle any issues or questions the potential client may throw your way. Big plus if you have sales experience from a prior life.
  • Appropriate License: You need to have one of the following law qualifications: a) An active Texas bar license or plan to get one b) A bar license from another state that has been active for over 5 years (this makes it easy to get Texas bar admission) c) A bar license from a state that has reciprocity with Texas.
  • You Love Being on the Phones: Have we mentioned this job is all about talking on the phone? If this isn’t you, please don’t apply.
