Develops, prepares, and analyzes financial and operating data while performing a variety of accounting duties. Assists with completion of other department projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist with plan/budget, monitor and track budget performance, identifying variances and trends
2. Assist with financial statement preparation and distribution
3. Assist with lease accounting, including managing lease agreements, compliance with accounting standards and reporting
4. Manage Nelnet Matching Gift Program
5. Perform calculations, posting of journal entries, analysis, and reporting related to GAAP accounting transactions
6. Research and respond to inquiries from other Nelnet departments
7. Research and respond to inquiries from customers and suppliers
8. Reconcile accounts, research using advanced problem solving, and resolution within corporate standards
9. Assist with various accounting projects and report on performance
10. Document, report and follow through on recommendations from projects
11. Manage expectations through consistent and timely updates
12. Work with external organizations and internal departments on project initiatives and various accounting issues
**Pay Range for this position is - $48,000 - $60,000
EDUCATION:
4-year degree in Accounting
EXPERIENCE:
1+ years accounting experience preferred (Including full-time or/or internships)
COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
1. Proficient skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
2. Ability to create Excel documents using a variety of formulas and Excel tools
3. Strong accountability for work: timely completion of tasks, working with manager to develop and achieve position goals, communication of task/project delays
4. Able to prioritize and deliver under deadline constraints and manage multiple tasks
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
6. Ability to work with a team or independently with initiative and appropriate supervision
7. Excellent oral and written communication skills
8. Strong interpersonal skills
9. Understanding of complex accounting concepts and strong knowledge of GAAP, including consolidation accounting.
